The Emmys addressed Seth Rogen’s statement that he’s been prevented from presenting at their show.
The 43-year-old actor and comedian thinks he might be banned from the Emmys. He believes this is because he publicly criticized their COVID-19 safety measures back in 2021, finding them insufficient.
During the awards show, which took place when COVID-19 was at its peak, he complained about the event’s location, describing it as completely sealed off. He added that he wouldn’t have attended if he’d known what it was like.
During a recent interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, actor Seth Rogen revealed that the event’s organizers were visibly upset with him, feeling he had caused them embarrassment.
On Thursday, the Television Academy addressed the claim in a statement to Entertainment Weekly.
The Television Academy extended congratulations to Seth Rogen for his Emmy wins last September and expressed their hope to see him attend future events, according to a representative.

Seth Rogen, who kicked off the awards show in 2021, appeared surprised on stage, commenting that the event was held in a completely sealed tent despite organizers claiming it was outdoors.
Although the Emmys were officially categorized as an outdoor event, the actual ceremony was held inside a tent.
Seth Rogen said he was glad to be at the Emmy Awards. He recently won four Emmys at the 2025 ceremony for his work on ‘The Studio’.
Okay, first of all, this room is way too crowded. I’m not sure why we’re even in here – we were told this event would be outside, but it isn’t. Someone wasn’t honest with us.
‘We’re in a hermetically-sealed tent right now. I would not have come to this,’ Rogen said.
Rogen pressed on, asking why they bothered with a roof at all. He explained that getting three chandeliers installed was apparently more of a priority than ensuring Eugene Levy’s safety that night – that was the decision that had been made.
Wow, what a week! It went from a really low point – literally wiping up spilled groceries – to having Paul Bettany sneeze on me. If I *had* to get sneezed on by someone, I’m glad it was him.
People were also critical of the Emmys because hundreds of celebrities attended the show without wearing masks or keeping a safe distance from each other, even though Los Angeles was still warning about the dangers of COVID-19 spreading.
Right after Seth Rogen finished speaking and before the Emmy Awards went to a break, DJ Reggie Watts assured viewers that the show was following all health and safety protocols.
Cedric the Entertainer, hosting the event, responded to Seth Rogen by saying the atmosphere felt great. He explained that everyone in attendance had been vaccinated, as vaccination was a requirement to be there.
While talking to Kimmel on Tuesday, Rogen doubled down on his claims.

‘It was true! They lied,’ he said.
I saw the event was listed as “Outdoor,” so I was prepared to just go through the motions and do the silly bit they’d written for me. But when I arrived, I realized we were *inside* a tent! I couldn’t pretend it was outdoors. It suddenly hit me – they wanted me to do this routine with Eugene Levy there, and the thought of potentially messing with him, or even just doing the bit *to* him, was awful. I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.
He then claimed that organizers were upset by his comments at the time.
Rogen said the producers were clearly angry with him after the fact, and while he understands they frequently change producers, he hasn’t been invited back to work with them.
‘I’ve been blacklisted,’ he added.
Rogen said he understood why the organizers might have been upset with him.
‘I get it. I went very off-book and made them look bad. So, I get that.’
Last month, at the 2025 Emmy Awards, his AppleTV+ show, The Studio, won the most awards – a total of 13 Primetime Emmys, including the award for Best Comedy Series.
Seth Rogen humbly accepted the award, joking that it was becoming a habit. He expressed his genuine gratitude, adding that he wanted to be truly sincere in his thanks.
As many of you know from watching our show, we’ve received incredible support, and I’m so grateful to everyone who took the time to vote for us – seriously, it means the world! Honestly, I’m a little overwhelmed with happiness just being here with all of you tonight.
Earlier that evening, he won his first award – Best Actor in a Comedy Series – for his role in The Studio.
He won against strong competition, beating out nominees like Adam Brody for ‘Nobody Wants This,’ Jason Segel for ‘Shrinking,’ Martin Short for ‘Only Murders in the Building,’ and Jeremy Allen White for ‘The Bear’.
Seth seemed genuinely surprised and honored when accepting the award. He admitted in his speech, ‘Thank you! This is incredible. I honestly didn’t expect to win, so I didn’t prepare anything. It’s the first time I’ve ever received an award like this.’

I found a used bowling trophy at a house sale when I was young, and my parents surprisingly encouraged me to buy it.
He finished his speech by expressing gratitude to his wife, mother, the cast and crew of his show, his agent, and his manager.
Seth took home the award for best directing, and he shared the best writing prize with Evan Goldberg, Peter Huyck, Alex Gregory, and Frida Perez.
In the show, Seth plays Matt Remick, the new leader of a historic Hollywood studio struggling to balance creative vision with the demands of the modern business world.
