This year’s South by Southwest Film and Television Festival has revealed its schedule, taking place from March 7th to the 14th. The opening night’s television feature will be the global debut of “The Studio,” a highly-anticipated new series co-created by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who are also serving as showrunners, directors, and scriptwriters for this project.
In this new series, Seth Rogen takes on the role of the head of a Hollywood studio. Alongside him are Catherine O’Hara, Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders, and Kathryn Hahn. The show will start streaming on Apple TV+ from March 26th.
The festival’s opening night film selection will be announced separately.

This upcoming week’s SXSW Film and Television Festival is arranging premieres in Austin for films featuring Jake Gyllenhaal, Dev Patel, Anne Hathaway, Ryan Gosling, and Kirsten Dunst.
Over the years, Rogen and Goldberg have built a reputation for delivering quality content at SXSW. They’ve showcased films like “Long Shot,” “Good Boys,” “Sausage Party,” and many more during the festival.
Claudette Godfrey, SXSW’s VP of Film & TV, expressed her excitement: “We’re overjoyed to have Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg returning to SXSW. Their new series is brilliantly thought out, boasting a superb cast and writing that perfectly encapsulates the passion, stress, pride, and occasionally inflated ego inherent in our field. It’s hilariously accurate, breathing life into tales we’ve all lived or heard. We can hardly wait to feel the buzz and enthusiasm as we unveil this gem at Paramount.
The upcoming festival’s main event lineup will feature the world debuts of several exciting films: Gavin O’Connor’s action-packed thriller “The Accountant 2” featuring Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal, Flying Lotus’ sci-fi horror “Ash” starring Eiza González and Aaron Paul, Alex Scharfman’s horror-comedy “The Death of a Unicorn” with Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega, Christopher Landon’s suspenseful “Drop” starring Meghann Fahy and Brandon Sklenar, and Mimi Cave’s thriller “Holland” featuring Nicole Kidman and Matthew Macfadyen.
I’m thrilled to be a part of the narrative feature competition, where I’ll get to witness the world debuts of some highly-anticipated films. These include Ben Jacobson’s “Bunny,” Matthew Shear’s “Fantasy Life,” Annapurna Sriram’s “F—toys,” Alexander Ullom’s “It Ends,” Brwa Vahabpour’s “My Uncle Jens,” Elena Oxman’s “Outerlands,” Yana Alliata’s “Reeling” and Amy Wang’s “Slanted.” Each of these films promises a unique storytelling experience, and I can hardly wait to see them all!
The competition for documentary features will showcase the first-time screenings of “Arrest the Midwife” by Elaine Epstein, “Assembly” by Rashaad Newsome and Johnny Symons, “Baby Doe” by Jessica Earnshaw, “The Python Hunt” by Xander Robin, “Remaining Native” by Paige Bethmann, “The Secret of Me” by Grace Hughes-Hallett, “Shuffle” by Benjamin Flaherty, and “The Spies Among Us” by Jamie Coughlin Silverman and Gabriel Silverman.
In this highlight section, we’ll be featuring films such as “American Sweatshop” directed by Uta Briesewitz with Lili Reinhardt in the lead role, “The Astronaut” by Jess Varley featuring Kate Mara, Jay Duplass’ “The Baltimorons” starring Michael Strassner, J Pinder’s “Cotton Candy Bubble Gum” with Nick Darnell, “The Dutchman” directed by Andre Gaines and starring André Holland, Amy Landecker’s “For Worse” featuring both Landecker and Bradley Whitford, Jing Ai Ng’s “Forge” starring Kelly Marie Tran, Geremy Jasper’s “O’Dessa” with Sadie Sink, Siobhan McCarthy’s “She’s the He”, Chad Hartigan’s “The Threesome” featuring Zoey Deutch, and Zak Hilditch’s “We Bury the Dead” starring Daisy Ridley.
Here are rephrased titles for each documentary, presented in an easy-to-understand manner:
* Steven Feinartz’s “Are We Good?” becomes “Steven Feinartz’s ‘Marc Maron: Are Humans Decent?'”
* Adam Bhala Lough’s “Deepfaking Sam Altman” changes to “Adam Bhala Lough’s ‘Deepfake Technology and Sam Altman'”
* Kate Blackmore’s “Make It Look Real” transforms into “Kate Blackmore’s ‘Creating Intimacy on Screen: A Look Behind the Scenes'”
* Linus O’Brien’s “Strange Journey: The Story of Rocky Horror” becomes “Linus O’Brien’s ‘The Strange Adventure: Uncovering the Tale of ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show'”
* Anayansi Prado’s “Uvalde Mom” converts to “Anayansi Prado’s ‘Aftermath in Uvalde: A Mother’s Story’
Among the premieres I’m looking forward to, there’s “Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie,” a screen adaptation of the popular Canadian TV series; “Hallow Road” by Babak Anvari, featuring Rosamund Pike and Matthew Rhys; “Butthole Surfers: the Hole Truth and Nothing Butt,” a documentary about the infamous Texas psychedelic band directed by Tom J. Stern; and “The Makings of Curtis Mayfield,” a documentary on the legendary R&B musician, produced by H.E.R.
On the television front, some new shows to look forward to are:
1. “#1 Happy Family USA”, co-created by Ramy Youssef and Pam Brady, featuring Youssef and Mandy Moore as leads.
2. “Government Cheese”, created by Paul Hunter and Aeysha Carr, starring David Oyelowo and Simone Missick.
3. “Happy Face”, developed by Jennifer Cacicio (screenwriter) and Michael Showalter (director), with Annaleigh Ashford and Dennis Quaid in the main roles.
4. “Spy High”, directed by Jody McVeigh-Schultz, and produced by Mark Wahlberg.
Each of these programs promises an exciting lineup of talent!
In a statement, Godfrey praised the daring storytellers who give SXSW its distinctive flair, saying, “We delight in uncovering and amplifying filmmakers who deliver powerful messages, test limits, ignite meaningful debates, and reshape our viewpoints in unexpected ways. The electricity and motivation that will fill the air when our exceptional SXSW crowd gathers in March to witness these narratives is going to bring about a truly dynamic transformation.
