Be warned, this contains spoilers for episode 5 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Many fans consider the latest episode of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms to be the best in the Game of Thrones universe, and the duel between Ser Duncan ‘Dunk’ the Tall and Aerion Targaryen is reminiscent of a famous fight from the original series.
This HBO series is a prequel to Game of Thrones, telling the story of Ser Duncan (Dunk), a kind but imposing knight, and his intelligent young apprentice, Egg. They journey across the land of Westeros, and the show is based on George R. R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novels. The cast includes Peter Claffey as Dunk, Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg, Finn Bennett as Aerion Targaryen, and Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonal Baratheon.
In a recent interview with The Wrap, Claffey talked about episode 5 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which featured the Trial of Seven. The episode showed Dunk in a difficult fight, confronting painful memories from his youth. This forced him to deal with his past and fight for what’s right in the present. Parker explained that the fight between Aerion and Dunk was inspired by the famous Battle of the Bastards from Game of Thrones, featuring Jon Snow and Ramsey Bolton.
We discussed with the stunt coordinators, Florian and C.C., that the fight needed really impactful, brutal punches – almost like someone relentlessly pounding an opponent on the ground. I thought it was a great way to show the character finally getting revenge, similar to Jon Snow’s fight with Ramsay Bolton. It really captured that raw, desperate struggle for survival, like you’d see in a harsh place like Flea Bottom where you’d do anything to survive.
The episode of Game of Thrones featuring the fight between Jon Snow and Ramsay Bolton, known as “The Battle of the Bastards,” is widely considered one of the show’s best. It received a 9.9 out of 10 rating on IMDb, just slightly higher than the 9.8 out of 10 given to episode 5 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Both episodes depict intense, tragic battles with hard-hitting action, showcasing Jon Snow leading a desperate fight and Dunk overcoming significant challenges.
The upcoming episode will conclude the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Following the sad events of the previous episode, it will likely focus on the consequences of Dunk’s win and the death of Prince Baelor Targaryen.
