Sentry vs. The Avengers: Who Would Win If They Fought in the MCU?
Attention! This article reveals plot points from Thunderbolts*. It’s revealed in Thunderbolts*, a Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) production, that the Sentry possesses power equal to that of all the Avengers combined. However, victory in a fight would hinge on particular circumstances. The storyline in Thunderbolts* revolves around a group of anti-heroes who share similar abilities and personalities. Throughout the narrative, these anti-heroes discover common ground, which allows them to overcome one of the MCU’s strongest characters using an unforeseen strategy. By the finale of Thunderbolts*’ third act, the team has developed a strong bond, and Valentina Allegra de Fontaine declares that they have been renamed as the New Avengers.
About a year and two months since the movie “Thunderbolts”, the post-credits scene hints that the New Avengers are based at Val’s Watchtower, and they have emerged as a competing team to Sam Wilson’s official Avengers. Fortunately for New York City, Robert Reynolds’ Void persona hasn’t resurfaced, but he also can’t activate his Sentry abilities. Although a direct “Thunderbolts” sequel seems improbable, there’s potential that Bob could regain control of the Sentry persona during the New Avengers’ battle against Doctor Doom in “Avengers: Doomsday”. This confrontation may offer a clear demonstration of Sentry’s power compared to the Avengers.
Sentry’s Powers Explained (In Thunderbolts* And In The Comics)
Sentry Is One The Most Powerful Characters In Marvel Lore
In the comic series “Thunderbolts,” it is confirmed that Robert Reynolds is the sole survivor of Val’s Sentry project. Unlike other test subjects, Bob acquired the power of a thousand suns. When he taps into these powers, he becomes faster, stronger, and more resilient than any other Avenger. Sentry’s skin is impervious to damage, his speed makes him virtually untouchable, and he can fly. With Val’s vision of creating a superhero with the combined power of all the Avengers realized in “Thunderbolts,” it’s evident that even though Sentry doesn’t often utilize his powers extensively in this series, his strength surpasses that of heavyweights like Thor, Captain Marvel, and Hulk.
In the Marvel Comics universe, Sentry’s strength surpasses that of his comic book character significantly. His power is often compared to the energy of a million collapsing stars. In theory, he could easily overpower most Marvel characters, excluding beings such as Knull, Eternity, and the Living Tribunal. Sentry has been depicted effortlessly defeating characters like Carnage and Ares, and even destroyed Asgard without showing much exertion. Typically, Sentry is subdued by delving into his subconscious or influencing his Dark Counterpart, also known as the Void.
The Avengers Powers And Team Iterations Explained
The MCU’s Avengers Have Become Increasingly Powerful
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the Avengers initially form as a group of strong heroes who successfully repel the Chitauri and thwart Loki’s Earth invasion plan. Later on, they vanquish Ultron and his robot army, but ultimately fail to stop Thanos. Throughout their journey in the MCU, the collective strength of the Avengers has fluctuated due to characters such as Hulk, Thor, Captain Marvel, and Scarlet Witch leaving the team multiple times. However, with Captain Marvel and Scarlet Witch being part of the team now and a well-planned strategy, the Avengers could potentially overcome many of the universe’s most formidable adversaries.
The movies “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame” highlight the significance of a well-balanced team and having contingency plans for Earth’s strongest superheroes. If the team had not disbanded in “Captain America: Civil War”, powerful heroes like Scarlet Witch could have intervened earlier, preventing the Black Order from causing havoc in “Avengers: Infinity War”. Although destiny plays a role, poor communication among the Avengers leaves them exposed to threats such as Thanos. By communicating effectively and strategically selecting their team members for each fight, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes could consistently emerge victorious.
Sentry Would Win In A Fight In The MCU
Thunderbolts* Suggests The Avengers Are No Match For Sentry
In “Thunderbolts,” the main team fails to inflict any damage on Robert Reynolds after he activates his Sentry abilities. As Sentry, Bob remains unfazed and swiftly counteracts every attack thrown at him. With just a casual gesture, Sentry could annihilate the Thunderbolts. The only reason the Thunderbolts manage to defeat Sentry is that Yelena realizes the Void, a destructive force linked to Bob’s emotions, could potentially conquer the world if left unchecked. If Yelena hadn’t figured out how to control the Void, it would have wreaked havoc globally. And if Bob could shut down the Void while still using his Sentry powers, he could bring about destruction city by city.
The Avengers lack the required knowledge to control the Void, leaving them exposed to its terrifying influence. If they manage to escape or stay clear of the Void, the Avengers would still struggle against Sentry in a fight. Sentry possesses the strength to eliminate any character with a power level equivalent to Thor, such as Captain America, Iron Man, and Spider-Man. Given that Sentry generally prefers not to fight (in Thunderbolts), his true potential might exceed any other Marvel Cinematic Universe character. This means an enraged Sentry could potentially defeat Thor, Captain America, and even the Hulk.
*Thunderbolts refers to a team of superheroes and villains in the Marvel Comics universe. In the context of the MCU, it does not currently exist.
In a pinch, The Avengers might rely on Scarlet Witch’s powerful ability to manipulate reality as a means to defeat Sentry. As demonstrated in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” an unchecked Wanda Maximoff, armed with the Darkhold’s forbidden secrets, can transform her adversaries in any manner she chooses. Similar to Scarlet Witch exploiting Black Bolt and Mister Fantastic’s abilities against them, she could alter reality itself to bring about Sentry’s destruction using his own powers. Interestingly, the outcome between these two characters hinges on the same variable – how determined they are to unleash their powers to their fullest extent in order to eliminate each other.
