Sentry Joins MCU: 11 Strongest Heroes Re-ranked

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Thunderbolts*

Marvel Comics’ universe teems with extraordinarily potent heroes and villains, and the arrival of Sentry has caused a significant upheaval in this already dynamic landscape. In a world brimming with superhumans, it’s not surprising that many of these augmented beings far surpass ordinary humans in power. This excess can stem from exceptional intelligence or sheer physical might, making them truly remarkable entities.

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe expands, the superheroes encounter progressively stronger and potentially dangerous adversaries. Although Thor, a deity, is among the mightiest heroes in the MCU, emerging characters have shown that Thor represents only a small fraction of an intricate tapestry, featuring entities wielding powers beyond Thor’s understanding. With the ominous threat of Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom looming over the MCU, it’s worth considering who currently holds the title as the most powerful figure in this universe.

11. Hulk

Initially, Bruce Banner’s other self, the Hulk, was primarily a mindless beast capable of destroying entire cities. But now, Bruce has learned to merge with his Hulk version, and he hasn’t demonstrated the same immense power yet. However, it appears that the new Intellectual Hulk might retain all the physical strength of the original Hulk, although this form is controlled by the more tranquil Banner.

In contrast, Hulk emerges as a formidable force within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), demonstrating strength that allows him to compete with gods such as Thor and vanquish multiple champion combatants. Furthermore, he has even subdued colossal extraterrestrial creatures larger than himself. This impressive feats place Hulk among the strongest characters in the MCU. However, while he once held a position near the pinnacle of power in the Infinity Saga, Hulk now finds himself at the bottom end of the top 10 ranking.

10. Thor

As a cinephile, I’d put it this way: From the realm of Asgard, I hail – a literal god and once the unquestionable strongest Avenger. Initially, I seemed invincible, but as my journey unfolded, I discovered how to wield my lightning powers independently of Mjolnir, revealing abilities far beyond what was initially perceived. I’m Thor, a force to be reckoned with, and when I face off against titans like the Hulk or a weakened Thanos, there’s no denying that I stand among Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

It seems that Thor has reached the limit of his powers compared to many others on this list. While Thor’s capabilities are indeed impressive, there are several other characters who possess even greater power and could easily overpower Thor, the god of Asgard. Despite this, Thor remains one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a wealth of experience in protecting Earth.

9. Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange might appear as an ordinary human, yet his proficiency in the arcane arts warrants respect; one shouldn’t underestimate him. In a swift transition, he transformed from a brilliant but arrogant individual into the Supreme Sorcerer, who joined forces with the Avengers to confront Thanos. Despite Strange’s aid, the alliance initially suffered defeat at the hands of Thanos, who was formidably empowered by the complete Infinity Gauntlet.

After the Blip, I found myself no longer holding the title of Sorcerer Supreme, as it had been passed to my ally, Wong. Yet, Stephen Strange remains one of the mightiest sorcerers ever to have walked this earth, possessing the ability to mold reality itself at will. However, a hint of ego lingers, seemingly hurt by Wong’s promotion and newfound authority over me.

8. Thanos

1. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thanos met his demise twice, yet his status as a formidable cosmic entity persists. Armed with the Infinity Stones, he carried out his plan to decimate half of all life in the universe, an act that left him permanently marred but ultimately survived. Even without the Infinity Stones amplifying his power, Thanos managed to slay Loki, a deity from Asgard, and mercilessly overpower Hulk.

2. Thanos experienced death twice in the MCU, but he continues to maintain his rank as one of the mightiest beings in the cosmos. With the Infinity Stones in hand, he implemented his scheme to eradicate half of all life across the universe, a decision that marked him deeply but ultimately proved fatal to himself. Despite losing the Infinity Stones and their augmenting effects on his strength, Thanos succeeded in slaying Loki, an Asgardian god, and subduing Hulk with brutal force.

3. Although Thanos has perished twice within the MCU, his standing as a powerful cosmic entity remains intact. Equipped with the Infinity Stones, he pursued his ambition to exterminate half of all life in the universe, an action that deeply affected him but ultimately led to his survival. With no more Infinity Stones to bolster his strength, Thanos managed to slay Loki, a god of Asgard, and overpower Hulk with extreme violence.

4. Despite facing death twice within the MCU, Thanos retains his position as one of the universe’s most powerful beings. With the Infinity Stones at his disposal, he set out to execute his plan to eliminate half of all life in existence, a decision that took its toll on him but ultimately resulted in his survival. Without any Infinity Stones to amplify his power, Thanos succeeded in slaying Loki, an Asgardian deity, and mercilessly overpower Hulk.

5. Though Thanos met his end twice within the MCU, he remains a significant force in the cosmos. Armed with the Infinity Stones, he undertook his mission to exterminate half of all life throughout the universe, an action that left him marked but ultimately enabled him to live on. Even without the Infinity Stones to boost his power, Thanos managed to slay Loki, a god of Asgard, and subdue Hulk with brutal force.

Thanos possessed an immense strength that allowed him to battle numerous teams of superheroes simultaneously without faltering under their immense might. His resilience, willpower, and unbridled power were the keys to his survival. Armed with the Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos became almost invincible, yet he never fully depended on it for commanding armies, wiping out life across galaxies, or wielding his immense power.

7. Kang

Despite Thanos’ ambition to bring peace by eliminating half of life in his universe, Kang aimed much higher. Kang is a formidable and intelligent entity from multiple universes who mastered time itself, created the Time Variance Authority, and battled against his counterparts for supremacy over the multiverse.

Among all beings across multiple universes, Kang is undeniably remarkable. When joining forces with the greater council of Kang’s, their power seems almost boundless. However, despite this immense potential, Kang finds himself in a somewhat moderate position due to being outmatched and defeated by relatively weaker adversaries – Ant-Man and The Wasp. If one Kang were more dominant, his power might set him apart as truly exceptional. For now, though, Kang and his counterparts maintain their place among the average tier of powerful entities.

6. Captain Marvel

Overpowering Kang, Captain Marvel emerges as one of the mightiest characters in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Previously a human air force officer, Carol Danvers transformed into this formidable figure once she was infused with the abilities of an extraordinarily potent alien tech, developed by Mar-Vell. Equipped with flight, energy manipulation, and additional extraordinary capabilities, Captain Marvel leaves adversaries like Thanos looking feeble in comparison.

In simple terms, Captain Marvel isn’t a deity, but her exceptional skills set her apart, making her hard to match. She often traverses the cosmos, lending a hand wherever help is needed. This extensive work has given her ample combat experience against various villains and monstrous threats. Yet, even with her tremendous might, there are colossal forces in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that can eclipse her power.

5. Arishem

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the Celestials are colossal entities believed to have been present at the universe’s inception. Their power is immeasurable, and with more unseen Celestials yet to emerge in the MCU, it’s challenging to gauge their full potential. Among them, Arishem, the Judge, seems to be a prominent figure wielding vast powers, guiding the Eternals on Earth before the arrival of Tiamut.

What stands out most about the Celestials is their unique talent for bringing life into existence. Capable of crafting entirely new species, planets, and filling the cosmos wherever they traverse, these beings are architects of the universe on a grand scale. Moreover, they are timeless entities, but exercise their powers only after thorough contemplation and strategic planning.

4. Eternity

In a similar vein, there’s a character named Eternity that debuted in Thor: Love and Thunder. This cosmic entity has been around since the very beginning of time itself, but it seems to remain detached from our universe, existing in another dimension. Its powers are vast, though not yet fully explored within the MCU. We’ve seen it bring back the dead and perform feats that seem almost miraculous.

Although they seem isolated and detached from all events, it’s challenging to gauge whether they would intervene in cosmic or multidimensional matters. Surprisingly, even though Eternity represents the very essence of the universe, there are some remarkable Marvel Cinematic Universe characters who have demonstrated more power when necessary, stepping forward to protect the timelines.

3. Loki

Loki was actually born in the realm of Jotunheim but was secretly taken and raised by Odin in Asgard as his adoptive son. This upbringing left him feeling uncertain about his identity and his abilities, leading to a lack of clarity regarding his role. With time, he developed a knack for sorcery and magic, often employing it for amusement. His ambition grew, and he started manipulating situations and controlling others to further his own interests.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Loki who survived his brother’s demise in the Sacred Timeline underwent remarkable transformation, becoming a more noble version of himself. Known as Loki, this character faced off against the variants of Kang and endeavored to mend the multiverse. To accomplish this task, Loki honed his magical prowess, enabling him to navigate through time and space. Now, he resides as the God of Stories at the heart of Yggdrasill, where he oversees multiple timelines and safeguards their continued existence.

2. Scarlet Witch

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there exists another character as potent as Loki – Scarlet Witch, also known as Wanda Maximoff. Her extraordinary magical prowess empowers her to alter reality, annihilate mighty superheroes, and accomplish tasks that seem almost impossible. Remarkably, she embodies chaos magic, giving her the ability to reshape the universe spontaneously.

The enigmatic Scarlet Witch makes the cut due to her remarkable power demonstrations within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, yet it’s evident that she has barely scraped the surface of her potential. Additionally, despite seemingly meeting her demise, a myriad of speculations persist that Wanda’s Scarlet Witch will resurface in the MCU.
