Sentinels has officially entered the League of Legends scene. Interestingly, this isn’t their first time competing in the LCS.
Sentinels playfully announced they’re joining the VALORANT competitive scene with a new video. But it’s not their first time playing the game – they actually competed in VALORANT previously. This isn’t a debut for Sentinels, it’s a return to the League Championship Series (LCS).
Sentinels in League of Legends and LCS 2026
LCS pro Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng announced that Sentinels is entering the League of Legends scene. However, he won’t be playing for or involved with the team in any way.
This new team is joining the league after 100 Thieves left, and the League of Legends Championship of the Americas (LCA) is now going back to being known as the LCS.
Sentinels CEO Rob Moore announced on X (formerly Twitter) that his team aims to bring their signature energy, strong competitive spirit, and determination to defeat G2 Esports to the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS). He also promoted the official Sentinels League of Legends X account.
Of course, the Western taunting was not one-way at all. G2 Esports promptly replied.
The banter online may be heating up, but fellow LCS teams were quick to welcome the org.
Shopify Rebellion, especially their player Fudge, reacted to the popular ‘SEN chair’ video with a new post of their own. Many other teams and figures in the LCS, including CaptainFlowers, had previously commented on the original video.

The LCS announced that Sentinels is planning long-term investments in its League of Legends team, focusing on improving facilities, coaching staff, and player development. The goal is to create a team with a mix of experienced players and promising new talent. While details about the team are still scarce – aside from the confirmed absence of Doublelift – more information is expected in the coming months.
A Phoenix reborn
Most people might not realize that Sentinels actually have a history in the LCS and professional League of Legends. They previously competed as Phoenix1 before becoming Sentinels.
Phoenix1 joined the North American League of Legends Championship Series (NA LCS) in Summer 2016 by purchasing Team Impulse’s spot. However, they struggled to compete and faced difficulties with player visas. As a temporary solution, and perhaps hinting at future changes, they brought on Kevin “Zentinel” Pires as a substitute jungler.

Following a very poor season in 2016, the team revamped their roster and signed two highly-skilled players from Korea: Ryu Sang-wook, a mid-laner, and Noh Dong-hyeon, an AD carry.
Ryu is probably familiar to many as the opponent in Faker’s famous play, but he was a highly skilled player himself. In other news, Phoenix1 recently signed Arrow directly from KT Rolster.
Phoenix1’s roster included well-known players like William “Meteos” Hartman and Choi “Pirean” Jun-sik. However, despite adding these prominent names and attempting to rebuild, the team struggled and was eventually relegated. While they managed to climb back up through promotion, they missed qualifying for the World Championship. This marked the end of Phoenix1’s brief, less than two-year run.

Now, as Sentinels, they aim for the LCS trophy and international success once again.
