Selma Blair steps into a recording studio amid MS battle as she fears losing her voice

Selma Blair recently shared a peek into her life, posting a photo from a recording studio visit as she continues to live with Multiple Sclerosis. She also revealed her worry about potentially losing her ability to speak.

The 53-year-old actress, recently seen in the war drama Stay Forte, shared a glimpse of a recording session with Grammy-winning musician Dave Reitzas on her Instagram page Sunday.

Sarah Michelle Gellar, known for her role in Cruel Intentions, revealed she had multiple sclerosis in 2018. She recently shared positive news, stating that she is currently in remission.

Photos showed Blair seated and seemingly singing into a microphone while a recording engineer worked nearby.

I recently went to a music studio with Dave Reitzas, a seven-time Grammy winner, to record a song for my son, I shared in a recent post.

Blair and her ex-partner, Jason Bleick, who she dated from 2010 to 2012, have a 14-year-old son named Arthur.

The actress shared with her fans that she took a particular action because she’s worried about one of the potential effects of her multiple sclerosis: losing her ability to speak. She explained that this fear is always present in her mind.

A slight tremor appears whenever I give a speech or when my dystonia acts up. It’s a constant reminder that life is unpredictable.

Back in 2019, Blair had opened up about her MS battle as well as dealing with spasmodic dysphonia.Ā

According to the Cleveland Clinic, voice dysphonia is a condition affecting the voice box and vocal cords. People with this rare condition may experience a voice that cracks, sounds breathy, or is strained. Currently, there is no cure.

The actress further expressed in the caption that she wanted her son ‘to have something lasting.’

She shared a cherished memory passed down from her mother and sisters—something she’d always hold dear. She described it as a comforting and loving part of who she is, something that grounds her and brings her peace.

Blair expressed hope that her son would always recognize her voice, even if something were to happen to her in the future.

Honestly, it’s amazing! She basically created a super-polished, even better version of me – and it’s all thanks to this incredibly talented friend of hers. She really came through!

In conclusion, the star gave a special shout out toĀ Reitzas before calling him a ‘hero.’

Blair has been candid about her battle with MS since announcing her diagnosis in 2018.Ā

She publicly shared on social media that she has multiple sclerosis and is currently experiencing a flare-up. Despite this, she’s thankfully been able to continue working, thanks to the support of understanding producers at Netflix and her own determination.

I’m really proud of the progress we’re making, even though things are challenging. I live with a disability that causes me to stumble, lose my grip on things, and have trouble with my memory. The left side of my body often feels uncoordinated. But despite everything, we’re getting it done.

Blair went on to say that she wasn’t sure what she would do next, but she promised to try her hardest.

During an interview with New Beauty in January, she offered a positive update on her health battle.Ā

I’ve been consistently sober. After a long journey of trying different things over many years, I finally found a treatment that works for me, and I’m proud I persevered.

She said she finally found a good doctor and is still recovering.

Whenever I’m out, it hits me that I’m the one who needs to create a fun atmosphere. If we don’t take the lead in enjoying ourselves, who will? I believe we all have a duty to share whatever happiness we can.

Blair had also expressed that she was ‘excited’ for what is in store for her in 2026.

I’m hoping for a fresh start for everyone. Too many people are stuck focusing on their limitations and fears instead of what’s possible.

The actress, known for Legally Blonde, also shared that she and her family are doing alright despite recent challenges. She expressed a hope for a return to kindness and support, believing many people are longing for deeper connections with others.

Blair is currently making a return to acting, and recently appeared in the film Stay Forte, which focuses on the Israel-Hamas war.

The project is set to be released in theaters later this month in March in the United States.Ā

According to IMDB, three Israeli hostages – Shamiriz, Chai, and Tallaka – managed to escape their captors in Gaza, but tragically died while attempting to return to Israel. They had been taken from their homes and held in tunnels.

Last month, in February, it was revealed that she’ll be in a new independent film called Ethan Almighty, alongside Sean Patrick Flanery.

The movie will be based on the real-life story of Jeff Callaway and his rescue dog, Ethan, and filming is scheduled to begin in April.
