Selling Sunset star exits show after brutally tense season amid claims that she was painted as the villain

It’s been a tense season on Selling Sunset, and at least one of the stars has had enough.

Nicole Young is departing the show after four years, citing a problematic and excessively manufactured dramatic environment, according to her representative who spoke with People magazine.

After a heated argument with her colleague, Chrishell Stause, during the season nine premiere in October 2025, the 40-year-old real estate agent began to reconsider how much time she was dedicating to the Netflix show.

The argument started at a dinner where Young was falsely accused of using drugs. She responded by making an insensitive remark about Chrishell Stause’s parents, who had both passed away from cancer – her mother in 2019 and her father in 2020.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following Maya Young’s career, and it’s interesting to see how her time at The Oppenheim Group – around eight years, actually – led her to the show. However, I recently heard from her team that the way she was presented on season six wasn’t quite accurate, and they found it a bit upsetting to watch. It’s always tough when reality TV doesn’t quite reflect someone’s true self!

She did not get along with most of the Selling Sunset cast members, especially Stause.

Nicole frequently found herself having to defend herself in unnecessarily dramatic and hostile situations, according to her representative.

Throughout her time on the show, Young consistently found herself needing to explain and justify not only what her character did, but also why she did it.

According to her representative, Young decided to leave the show because she didn’t feel it was portraying her accurately anymore. The decision was entirely her own.

Near the conclusion of its ninth season, Young announced she and her husband, Brandon, were relocating to Nashville. They finalized the purchase of their $2.3 million house – which they’ve called their dream home – on March 3rd.

Young recently shared a video on Instagram showing off her new home. It boasts features like wood floors, a modern kitchen, a cozy enclosed patio, and a large deck with a view of the surrounding land.

I’m so thrilled to finally share that after a long search, we’ve found and bought our dream home! It’s been quite the journey, but we couldn’t be happier to start this new chapter.

Maya Young still holds a real estate license in California. Although she won’t be appearing on Selling Sunset anymore, she continues to work for the Oppenheim Group.

Nicole is dedicated to her work and is seeking opportunities that better align with her skills and values, according to her representative.

After recently changing her hair color from blonde to brunette, Young is settling into her new life in Nashville and looking for ways to unwind.

She posted a video on Instagram of herself and her husband taking a yoga class with playful Dalmatians.

During a break, Young was spotted gently holding a Dalmatian puppy, sometimes resting it on her lap. Brandon let the puppy lie comfortably across his legs.

‘If you love dogs, this is a MUST-DO activity!’ she raved in the caption.

Sources say Selling Sunset has been renewed for a tenth season, and original cast members Christine Quinn and Heather Rae Young will both be back.

I was really sad to hear that Chrishell won’t be back for another season, and honestly, I completely understand why. She told Bustle it just wasn’t good for her mental health anymore, and that’s something I really respect. It seems like things got really tough for her, and prioritizing her well-being is the right move, even if it means leaving the show.
