Selena Gomez’s Netflix movie matches impressive record
This year, Selena Gomez’s Netflix film titled “Emilia Pérez” has tied a remarkable record set by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) as the nominees for 2021 are announced.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m totally blown away by the show that tells the story of a drug lord, played by Karla Sofía Gascón, who enlists a lawyer (Zoe Saldaña) to help her vanish and transition into a woman. This incredible production has raked in an impressive 15 nominations!
It’s important to mention that this list isn’t the official final one, set to be revealed on January 15th. However, Emilia Pérez’s nominations have placed it in the same league as previous longlist nominees for “All Quiet on the Western Front” (2022) and “Oppenheimer” (2023), both of which eventually won the Best Film award.
Last year’s Barbie and Killers of the Flower Moon also landed 15 longlist nominations.
Emilia Pérez is nominated in the categories of Best Film and Best Director (for Jacques Audiard), while Gomez, Saldaña, Adriana Paz, and Gascón have been listed as potential winners for Supporting Actress and Leading Actress roles respectively.
As a film enthusiast with years of experience in reviewing movies, I must say that the nominations for this year’s films have been particularly impressive. Among them is “Conclave,” a gripping papal thriller that has garnered an impressive 14 nods, including Best Film and acting nominations for Ralph Fiennes, Isabella Rossellini, and Stanley Tucci. These talented individuals truly shine in their roles, making the film a must-see for any movie lover.
Additionally, “The Substance,” “The Brutalist,” and “A Complete Unknown” each have 11 nominations apiece. While I have not yet had the pleasure of seeing these films, the sheer number of nominations suggests that they are masterful works that demand attention. It is always exciting to discover new films that push the boundaries of storytelling and challenge our perceptions, and I eagerly await the opportunity to view these three films.
All in all, this year’s nominees represent a diverse range of genres, themes, and styles, but they are united by their exceptional quality and artistic merit. I look forward to seeing which films will take home the top honors and continue to expand the boundaries of cinematic artistry.
Additionally, notable films such as “Dune: Part Two” and “Wicked” are also racking up high scores. Interestingly, both of these movies have made it onto ten different nomination lists. On the other hand, “Anora”, “Blitz”, and “Kneecap” can be found on seven separate lists as well.
On February 16th, the BAFTA awards event is scheduled to occur, marking the return of David Tennant as the host, following his successful stint last year.
The Golden Globe Awards, with Emilia Pérez boasting the most nominations, will officially begin the awards season this coming Sunday, the 5th of January.
The 2025 British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) in the category of Entertainment (EE), scheduled for February 16, will take place at the Royal Festival Hall. You’ll be able to catch the event live on BBC One and iPlayer.
