Selena Gomez says she’s ‘bringing back the magic’ in ‘Wizards Beyond Waverly Place’

As a devoted movie lover and longtime fan of Disney Channel, I can’t contain my excitement about the upcoming “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” reboot! Selena Gomez’s announcement during this year’s Disney upfront left me in awe. It’s hard to believe that Alex Russo, a character that holds a special place in my childhood memories, is coming back to our screens with a new spin-off series.

Selena Gomez, who has been nominated for an Emmy and is known for acting, singing, and founding Rare Beauty, is set to resume her role as Alex Russo in the upcoming revival of “Wizards of Waverly Place.” Pre-production on this project is currently underway.

On “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Wednesday, Gomez made an appearance, with her “Only Murders in the Building” colleague Martin Short serving as the guest host. During the chat, she shared the significance of the show to her.

She expressed her excitement about being featured in the first episode and serving as its executive producer. The significance of this opportunity brought her to tears, as it was where her journey began. Honoring it through this role has been an enjoyable experience for her, and she can’t wait to share it with everyone.

An spin-off story will unfold about Justin Russo, Alex’s older brother portrayed by David Henrie, who has renounced his wizard abilities to live a normal life with his spouse and two boys. However, as reported by Deadline, an unexpected crisis at Wiztech summons a young magician to Justin’s doorstep seeking guidance. Justin is forced to reconnect with his magical past and aid in saving the Wizard World.

As a passionate cinema enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that during the Disney upfront in May, I had the pleasure of hearing Gomez make an exciting announcement onstage. He unveiled a new series, giving us, the eager audience, a sneak peek with the first-look photos and even revealed the official logo. The event was not only about the announcement but also introduced us to some amazing new cast members. Among them were the charismatic Janice LeAnn Brown and the promising newcomer Taylor Cora.

The “Wizards” reboot does not have an announced release date as of now, but Disney has confirmed that the new series, titled “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” will debut on Disney Channel and Disney+ towards the end of this year.

Last month at Cannes Film Festival, Gomez, joined by actors Zoe Saldaña and Karla Sofía Gascón, gained the most enthusiastic applause for their roles in the musical drama “Emilia Perez.” Notably, Gomez was honored with the best actress accolade. At the award ceremony, she was visibly emotional alongside her colleagues, basking in the immense recognition for the film.
