Selena Gomez enjoys self care day after revealing how she works through bipolar disorder with husband Benny Blanco

Selena Gomez recently took some time for self-care following her and husband Benny Blanco’s open discussion about managing her bipolar disorder, which sometimes involves periods of heightened energy, or ‘mania’.

On Tuesday, the 33-year-old actress was spotted leaving the Diamond Face Institute in Beverly Hills, a popular spot for celebrities.

Dr. Jason Diamond founded the practice, focusing solely on facial procedures. He uses his specialized knowledge to offer a variety of surgical and non-surgical treatments.

Gomez looked radiant as she left the Diamond Face Institute with a small bag, waiting at the valet stand.

She chose a comfortable and relaxed look for her day of self-care, wearing an all-black outfit that included a long, fuzzy coat, a fitted top, comfortable pants, and cozy slip-on shoes.

The singer, who recently announced she’s planning to have a baby with a music producer, wore her long, dark hair down and completed the look with stylish sunglasses.

Last month, Gomez discussed her struggles with mental health on the Friends Keep Secrets podcast.

She joined Blanco, along with his co-hosts Lil Dicky and Kristin Batalucco, when the conversation turned to mental health.

The musician once asked Selena Gomez if she had realized she might have bipolar disorder before doctors officially diagnosed her.

She said she had a feeling something wasn’t right and now believes her initial diagnosis was incorrect. She described the process of finally getting a diagnosis as incredibly difficult.

It’s incredibly challenging, and you absolutely shouldn’t give up. I’m really thankful I tried multiple rehab programs – going to four of them actually helped me figure things out.

Blanco also mentioned that Selena sometimes experiences manic episodes without realizing it herself, which is surprising.

The artist explained that the former Disney Channel star often doesn’t fully process what’s happening until after it’s over, and sometimes doesn’t even recall it while it’s happening.

He pointed out that it’s a sensitive situation because you shouldn’t directly discuss the problem with someone who is currently experiencing it.

However, Blanco pointed out that Gomez is ‘hyperaware’ when she is starting to have an episode.

I’ve been hearing more and more people talk openly about their mental health, and it’s incredibly encouraging. Recently, an actress shared that she’s learned to recognize when she’s entering a manic phase – she described it as just knowing she’s starting to feel a bit ‘manic.’ What I love is that she feels so empowered by being able to talk about these moments, and that’s a really positive step for all of us. It’s all about self-awareness and feeling comfortable sharing your experiences, and she’s a wonderful example of that.

The actress added that she feels no shame and is now able to react to things more quickly.

She praised Blanco for being a supportive and understanding collaborator, able to adapt to different situations and work with you effectively.

‘And then you kind of gradually understand what’s happening,’ Gomez said.

After receiving her diagnosis, the actress from Only Murders In The Building shared that she finally feels able to live without constraints.

Gomez said she finally realized why she sometimes reacted to things in a unique way.

My behavior was all over the place. Sometimes I was motivated by fear, other times by love or passion. It just didn’t make sense, it was chaotic.

In 2020, Selena Gomez revealed she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder during an appearance on Miley Cyrus’s Instagram Live show, Bright Minded.

She said she felt both scared and relieved at the time, but was glad to finally understand the reasons behind her long-term struggles with depression and anxiety.

In a 2024 interview with Hoda Kotb, the actress shared that receiving her diagnosis felt liberating.

Life can be overwhelming with all its distractions. I’m no longer intimidated by what others think of me because I’ve taken ownership of my own experiences and shared my story. Telling it brought me a sense of liberation.

She also mentioned her work promoting mental health awareness, which she discussed with Billboard last year.

The Wolves singer shared that it was frightening to be so open about their mental health, and they were determined not to be seen as someone who was simply a victim.

I truly believe in the power of sharing my experiences – if it helps even one person, it’s worth it. Honestly, I’m prepared for any criticism that comes my way, because I’ve seen firsthand how much more open and understanding people are becoming about mental health, and that’s what really matters to me.

In 2014, Selena Gomez was diagnosed with lupus, a long-term autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissues and organs, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Three years later, she underwent a kidney transplant.

The star later expressed that she developed anxiety and started getting severe panic attacks.

Before she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, she had received various treatments over the years. One such treatment in 2016 led her to cancel her Revival Tour.

Gomez created the Rare Impact Fund because she’s dedicated to supporting mental health and helping people feel good about themselves, according to the fund’s website.

She also hosts a yearly Rare Beauty Mental Health Summit, featuring workshops and conversations about mental wellbeing.

Gomez and Blanco tied the knot last year during a romantic ceremony in Santa Barbara, California.

A record producer recently started a new podcast called Friends Keep Secrets, featuring rapper Lil Dicky and his wife.

During Tuesday’s show, Gomez also shared her vision for her future family with Blanco, imagining a full dinner table with her grown children.

She shared that the movie The Family Stone, featuring Diane Keaton and Sarah Jessica Parker, was a source of inspiration for her.
