Selena Gomez Attends Disney Event After Debunking Billionaire Rumors
At a Disney event on Tuesday, Selena Gomez exuded elegance, following the revelation by Forbes that her billionaire status was not accurate earlier in the day.
At the 2025 Disney Upfront event held at the Javits Center in New York City, the 32-year-old actress impressed everyone in an elegant black gown.
As an ardent admirer, let me express my awe at the breathtaking display of elegance. My eyes were instantly drawn to the long, flowing gown that accentuated her toned arms, and the daring side slit added an extra dash of allure. The star adorned her dark locks in a sleek bun, completing the timeless look.
She was joined by her Only Murders in the Building co-stars Martin Short, 75, and Steve Martin, 79.
Previously on Tuesday, Forbes disputed her billionaire title, following rumors about the struggling finances of her mental health company, Wondermind, which reportedly failed to meet several payment obligations towards its partners.
In contrast to the Bloomberg report from 2024 estimating Gomez’s net worth at approximately $1.3 billion, Forbes currently places his net worth around $700 million.
It was verified on Monday that nine employees from Wondermind were let go, receiving two weeks’ notice pay. This leaves the company with just four staff members.
According to a report from Forbes, the startup established by Gomez in 2021 along with her mother Mandy Teefey and ex-partner Daniella Pierson, previously faced substantial financial obligations totaling thousands of dollars. However, as per the company’s statement, these debts have now reportedly been paid off.
In simpler terms, Selena’s mother shared with the staff that she had used a home equity loan from her personal assets to help keep the struggling startup afloat.
It’s not clear how much of her own funds Gomez has contributed to Wondermind.
We’ve attempted to get additional insights from Teefey, Wondermind, and representatives of Gomez concerning the claims made in the Forbes article, but have yet to receive a response.
Although she ranks among the wealthiest self-made female entrepreneurs due to her substantial net worth, the distribution of her assets could potentially limit her ability to make substantial investments in Wondermind.
Selena’s most significant asset is her estimated 51% ownership in her makeup line, Rare Beauty.
Rare Beauty generated $367 million in revenue in 2023, according to a California state filing.
Forbes estimates the company’s value at around $1.3 billion.

Apart from possessing exceptional beauty, it is said that Gomez has amassed approximately $90 million in earnings across multiple endeavors, such as television appearances, music, brand partnerships, and live performances.
In total, the reported earnings of $90 million include a stated $30 million from her 2017 partnership with Puma and approximately $24 million for her performance as both star and executive producer on the award-winning Hulu comedy series, “Only Murders in the Building.
I, too, can’t help but be enthralled by the extraordinary talent that is Emilia Pérez! She stole the show in the Oscar-nominated film bearing her name, even earning a nod for Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes! But wait, there’s more – she also masterfully executive produced the Netflix phenomenon, 13 Reasons Why. Simply put, I am completely captivated by her brilliance and can’t wait to see what she does next!
In the year 2020, she acquired a house worth $5 million in Encino, and more recently, she and her fiancé, Benny Blanco, have purchased a $35 million mansion located in Beverly Hills.
Gomez started her career at 10, playing Gianna on ‘Barney and Friends’ from 2002 to 2004.
2007 marked a significant milestone for her, as she made a notable debut playing the main character Alex Russo in Disney Channel’s hit series ‘Wizards of Waverly Place.’
After that, she shifted focus to music, debuting with her first album in 2008, followed by six additional albums, the most recent one being a joint effort with Blanco, released in March.
2021 saw the launch of Wondermind, which subsequently raised $5 million during its Series A funding round, with an estimated value of $100 million.
Despite the initial success, the company has faced challenges in subsequent funding.
Previously employed individual disclosed that Teefey mentioned they (Teefey and Gomez) were planning to donate or invest $8 million by the year 2023 midway through it.
Gomez ‘is not involved in the day-to-day operations’ at Wondermind.

According to a source, she has spent millions of dollars on the company throughout the years, not only as a means of supporting her mother but also because they both share a deep-rooted interest in mental health matters. (People)
Despite the report from Forbes stating that Wondermind is allegedly in debt to freelancers and suppliers for an estimated sum ranging from tens to potentially hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The representative of the organization admitted to Forbes on Saturday that the company had faced challenges due to rapid expansion, but asserted that the issue has been resolved, and steps have been taken to maintain smooth operations and guarantee timely payments in the future.
The representative announced that we’ll soon move forward to a fresh phase in the story of Wondermind. Rest assured, our dedication to promoting mental wellness and positively impacting numerous individuals remains unwavering.
