Selena Gomez admits she was left 'stunted' by childhood choice

As a dedicated follower of Selena Gomez‘s career, I can deeply empathize with her feelings about entering showbusiness at such a young age. Reflecting on my own life, I wish I had been given the opportunity to explore different paths before being thrust into the spotlight.

Selena Gomez confessed that if she could make a different choice, she wouldn’t have started her career in show business at such a young age, as the entertainment industry held back her personal development.

32-year-old Emilia Pérez, who is well-known for it, embarked on her acting career at a young age of 10, making appearances in thirteen episodes of the popular children’s program, ‘Barney’.

From my perspective as a lifestyle connoisseur, by the tender age of fifteen, I had already seized the leading role in the Disney Channel series “Wizards of Waverly Place,” which catapulted me into further appearances in films like “Another Cinderella Story,” “Ramona and Beezus,” and “Monte Carlo.

Looking back on starting her career in the limelight at a young age as part of Elle’s 2024 Women in Hollywood feature, Selena expressed: ‘I have no regrets, I am blessed to have a wonderful family, and I appreciate the guidelines set by my parents.’

‘However, I don’t think I would’ve done it very young if I was thinking of myself now.

‘There were a lot of things that I felt stunted by.

In my twenties, the overwhelming pressure exerted by many individuals did not aid me in cultivating a strong sense of self.

‘It was a very difficult time.’

Selena expressed in her post, “I deal with it daily. My aim is to maintain a positive outlook and concentrate on aspects such as this film project that truly bring me joy.

‘But I would just say maybe wait and have a little bit of a life.’

Selena has been vocal about her struggles in the spotlight in the past.

In 2021, the singer expressed regret about signing away her life to Disney at a young age, saying she didn’t fully understand the implications as she was merely playing around on set. Now, she feels like a sponge, eagerly absorbing as much knowledge and wisdom as possible.

In a later chat with the Radio Times, Selena went on to emphasis that she was ‘beyond proud of the work that I did with Disney as well.

‘It kind of shaped who I am in a way’.

Following her roles in Another Cinderella Story, Ramona and Beezus, and Monte Carlo, Selena transitioned into more adult-oriented productions like Spring Breakers and Only Murders in the Building.

Speaking with Elle, Selena mentioned that the toughest acting role she’s encountered so far in her career was “Spring Breakers,” given that she was about 18 or 19 years old at the time.

‘It was the first thing I did right after my Disney show and it was such a crazy detour.

That’s when I recognized my fascination for filmmakers who create raw, entertaining content that might be slightly more intense than usual.

Selena is among the famous faces listed in Elle’s 2024 Women in Hollywood honorees.

This group includes Danielle Deadwyler, Cynthia Erivo, Karla Sofía Gascón, Mikey Madison, Demi Moore, Julianne Moore, Saoirse Ronan, Zoe Saldaña, and Tilda Swinton, all of whom are featured together.
