SEGA Has a New Virtua Fighter Game in Development
As a seasoned gamer with memories of arcade halls and late-night battles against friends over the original Virtua Fighter, hearing about SEGA’s revival plans has me reminiscing about the good old days! The thought of getting my hands on another installment in the series is nothing short of exhilarating.
SEGA has announced that they are developing a new installment in the Virtua Fighter series. Additionally, they are planning to reintroduce classic games such as Crazy Taxi, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Shinobi, and Jet Set Radio.
In a recent announcement, Justin Scarpone, who took on the roles of Executive Vice President and Head of Global Transmedia at SEGA earlier this year, disclosed that they are currently working on another installment of Virtua Fighter, which is set to be part of their upcoming collection of new games drawn from their timeless series of classic titles.
Scarpone shared with VGC that there are several games currently being worked on, which belong to the ‘legacy’ category, as announced at The Game Awards last year. These include Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, and another installment of Virtua Fighter. Furthermore, in some cases, animation series or live-action films are being created to complement these projects and align with the overall development plans.
In addition to a new Sonic the Hedgehog movie and the Yakuza: Like a Dragon series (which didn’t meet expectations) on Prime Video, SEGA also has more film and television projects in development. These include adaptations of classic titles such as Eternal Champions, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, and Shinobi.
As for details on the new Virtua Fighter, we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled.
