Sega Files New Ecco the Dolphin Trademark
It’s possible that Sega is considering reviving the quirky dolphin character, Ecco, as they have recently filed a trademark for it.
Ecco the Dolphin was particularly popular during the Mega Drive era, but his appearances on the Dreamcast were brief and his popularity waned not long afterward. The last Ecco game was released 25 years ago.
As I was cruising around, I came across a sneaky find by Gematsu – a filing with a possible new logo peeking out. To be honest, it’s a bit unusual, but in a cool and classy way – just some clean, stylish text on a crisp white backdrop, much like a professional business card.
The trademark submission date was December 27th, and it’s only recently been revealed to the public. Given their current business strategy, which involves revisiting some classic series, it could be that a new Ecco game is in the works.
Towards the end of 2023, it was revealed that titles like Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, and Streets of Rage, along with others, were making a comeback. They even showcased some sneak peeks, so Ecco would be a perfect fit among them. We’ll definitely be watching this development closely.
On December 27th, Sega officially registered trademarks for “Ecco the Dolphin” and simply “Ecco” in Japan. These registrations were made public today.
