The BBC has offered a sneak peek at its upcoming Amandaland Christmas special, showing fans what to expect from the reunion of Absolutely Fabulous stars Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders. Originally announced in October, it was later revealed that Saunders would also appear as a guest star in the special.
This special episode will be the first time Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley have appeared together on screen as their famous characters, Edina Monsoon and Patsy Stone from Absolutely Fabulous, since the show originally aired.
So, I’m really excited about this new special from the Motherland universe! Apparently, Jennifer Saunders is joining the cast as Felicity’s (played by Anna Lumley) aunt, Joan. No word yet on when it’s actually airing, but it sounds hilarious and I can’t wait to see it!

Aunt Joan is a lively, outgoing woman who embodies a rural lifestyle and has a confident, somewhat boastful personality – a stark contrast to Felicity.
The latest photo shows Lumley and Saunders seated next to Lucy Punch, who stars as Amanda. Behind them stand Philippa Dunne, Samuel Anderson, Alexander Shaw, and Miley Locke.

The scene takes place on Christmas Day, with the family gathered around a dining table enjoying festive treats. They’re wearing Christmas cracker hats and the table is laden with mince pies, a pavlova, Christmas pudding, and a cheese board.
Saunders recently shared her excitement about appearing in the Amandaland Christmas special. She’s thrilled to play Joanna’s sister and anticipates plenty of fun, describing it as a classic ‘SoHa style’ family reunion.
Punch shared their enthusiasm for starting work on the second series of Amandaland, praising the incredibly talented cast. They described the upcoming Christmas special as fantastic, full of festive spirit and excitement, and promised it will be a real treat for viewers.

Holly Walsh and Laurence Rickard, the writers and creators of the show, are delighted to be making a Christmas special, and they feel Jennifer Saunders is a fantastic fit with the existing cast.
Joanna Lumley revealed back in October that she was beginning a new series of her podcast, Amandaland. She described the first series as a big hit, praising Lucy Punch’s work, and announced they were recording seven more episodes, including a Christmas special for this year’s holiday season. She shared this news on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show.
Amandaland airs on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
