Security guard at centre of Chappell Roan controversy was looking after Sabrina Carpenter when he sparked outrage by ‘aggressively’ confronting Jude Law’s daughter

Contrary to reports, the security guard involved in the recent hotel incident that upset Jude Law’s daughter was actually assigned to protect pop singer Sabrina Carpenter, not Chappell Roan, according to an exclusive report from the Daily Mail.

Pascal Duvier, a 53-year-old man, caused a public uproar after he angrily confronted 11-year-old Ada Law for trying to meet singer Roan while they were both having breakfast at the luxurious Tangara Palace hotel in Sao Paulo.

As a mom myself, I always find those little moments so heartwarming! Jude Law’s daughter, Ava, was recently at the same hotel as her mom, Catherine Harding, and her stepfather, Jorginho. Apparently, she spotted Roan having breakfast, and instead of making a fuss, she just gave him a sweet smile as she walked by. It’s lovely to see such a mature and respectful reaction – she clearly understood the situation and just offered a kind acknowledgement. It really speaks to her upbringing, doesn’t it?

Duvier intervened and aggressively told the little girl to stay away from Roan.

The bodyguard, previously employed by Kim Kardashian, publicly explained his actions from the day before. He stated the incident at the hotel led to his forceful response and clarified he wasn’t actually working for Roan, but was there representing singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter, known for her role in the show ‘Manchild’.

Carpenter and Roan were both staying at a fancy hotel while they played at the Lollapalooza festival in Brazil.

Video online shows martial arts expert Duvier closely protecting Carpenter as she exited a restaurant in Sao Paulo before her performance last Friday. Carpenter also shared photos from inside the TangarĆ” Palace hotel.

The disagreement started when Duvier scolded Ada and her mother, Catherine, for laughing at Chapel Roan while they were eating breakfast. Catherine later shared details of the incident online, implying Duvier might be a security guard for the Pink Pony Club.

Catherine said the guard accused them of bothering people and threatened to tell the hotel, which made Ada start crying.

Jorginho didn’t seem to know about Carpenter’s connection to Duvier when he posted online about Ada. He said Ada spotted Roan, the singer from Pink Pony Club, while she was dining nearby. Ada simply smiled at Roan as she walked by, then returned to her seat without speaking or approaching her.

‘What happened next was completely disproportionate,’ he wrote.

While my wife and daughter were eating breakfast, a large security guard approached their table and began speaking to them very aggressively. He told my wife that she needed to stop our daughter from ‘disrespecting’ or ‘harassing’ others.

It seems the family had no idea Duvier knew Carpenter, as they cheerfully went to her show at the festival and deliberately didn’t attend Roan’s concert following the incident.

Catherine shared a video of her daughter Ada happily reacting to seeing Sabrina Carpenter perform, writing that this was Ada’s sweet reaction yesterday.

After a disappointing experience, our daughter changed her mind about the show tonight. Instead, we spent a fun day shopping together, followed by dinner.

‘Thank you all for the kind messages – everything is fine!’

Roan later said on social media that she was aware of what happened and confirmed the security guard involved wasn’t someone who usually worked directly with her. She expressed her regret and stated she has no tolerance for that kind of behavior towards fans.

According to a spokesperson for the celebrity, Chappell had no knowledge of any contact between the mother and daughter and any outside security firms.

In her video, she stated she hadn’t seen them at breakfast during her hotel stay. She also confirmed she didn’t ask her security team, or anyone else working with her, to approach them.

Chappell expects a lot from her teams and won’t accept any aggressive behavior directed at her or her supporters.

Duvier posted a statement on Instagram taking responsibility for his actions on March 21st. He explained he was at the hotel representing someone else and was not providing security for Chapell Roan.

My actions were independent and not connected to Chapell Roan, her security, her management, or anyone else.

I made a decision considering information from the hotel, recent events I’d seen, and the increased security concerns in the area.

I only had a brief, positive interaction with the mother, and we ended the conversation respectfully.

Mary-Kate Carpenter and Ashley Roan, who are close friends, sang a duet of Wham!’s ‘Last Christmas’ for a Netflix holiday special in 2024.

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Carpenter shared her admiration for Roan, saying she was a big fan and listened to her songs repeatedly.

It’s strange to just be ourselves, hanging out as two women, compared to when we’re performing and become those stage personas. It’s a different experience when I’m on stage versus when she is.

In 2024, Carpenter performed a cover of Roan’s song “Good Luck, Babe” during a BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge session. The two artists have frequently shown support for each other, including sharing the stage at various festivals.

While Roan praised Carpenter’s album Short n’Sweet naming Taste and Juno as her capture tracks.

They also share the same Island Records label.

Last year, Carpenter employed Duvier, a 6ft 4in security professional, to accompany her on her UK tour. Before working with Carpenter, Duvier was responsible for Kim Kardashian’s security but was let go in 2016 following a robbery during her stay in Paris.

After the Ā£7 million robbery, Kardashian’s insurance company sued Duvier, claiming he was grossly negligent. The case was settled privately in 2020. Despite his California security company going bankrupt, Duvier continues to work in personal security.

The singer, known for her hit ‘Espresso’ and other songs, has experienced security issues before. Back in 2024, during a Radio 1 event, one of her security guards hit a fan with an umbrella while she was being crowded by fans.

After the event in Brazil, Carpenter traveled to Colombia for a performance. She’s reportedly now back in the United States and scheduled to perform at the Coachella music festival next month.

She announced they were heading home and looked forward to seeing everyone again soon, perhaps in the desert. She also expressed gratitude to her incredible band, dancers, crew, and team for helping create some truly memorable performances.

‘And that you for all the sweetness you showed us South America. Your love is like no other.’
