Section 31 movie trailer shows return of an alien race from The Original Series

As a lifelong Star Trek enthusiast who can recite lines from multiple series and movies without missing a beat, I must say that the return of the People of Cheron in Paramount+’s Section 31 is an exciting development! The original appearance of these aliens in “Let That Be Your Last Battlefield” was a powerful commentary on racial prejudice, and their reappearance suggests a continuation of this thought-provoking narrative.

I can hardly contain my excitement! As a die-hard Star Trek fan, I’ve got some fantastic news to share. On January 24, 2025, the first Star Trek film to grace Paramount+’s streaming platform will make its debut – and it’s none other than Section 31!

In the third season episode of Star Trek: The Original Series titled “Let That Be Your Last Battlefield,” two alien characters named Lokai and Bele from the species of Cheron had been engaged in a continuous war for more than 50,000 years. This prolonged conflict was due to a distinctive trait between them – their skin color. Specifically, Bele’s skin was black on one side and white on the other, while Lokai’s was reversed, showcasing an interesting contrast that ultimately led to their endless hostilities.

In the Section 31 preview, an alien resembling the one from earlier, characterized by black and white markings, appears. Though when Captain Kirk beamed Bele and Lokai back to their planet, it had been completely wiped out due to internal conflicts over skin color. However, since this film takes place before Star Trek: The Next Generation, it’s plausible that some of these aliens managed to flee their planet prior to its destruction, seeking safety for their families, which could explain the presence of this alien in the trailer.

It’s intriguing that Section 31 is reviving these extraterrestrials, given their solitary encounter seemed to have no lasting impact on the Enterprise, its personnel, or Starfleet. Typically, it’s the aliens who inflict the most harm that return, like the Borg, Romulans, Q, and Gorn. However, since humanity apparently didn’t grasp the initial lesson from “Let That Be Your Last Battlefield,” this could be a deliberate message the movie is trying to convey.

As I delved into this game, I stumbled upon an alien resembling Lokai and Bele, which might just be a coincidence. But hey, Star Trek isn’t known for such random occurrences. This Cheronian creature seems to have been strategically placed, and even if it’s just a minor plot twist, I can sense it’s got a role to play in the grand scheme of things.
