Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives star Mayci Neely admits she felt like she was ‘in prison’ after being sexually assaulted by her abusive ex-boyfriend

Mayci Neely, known from the show The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives, has shared that she felt trapped and as though she were ‘in prison’ following a sexual assault by her former abusive partner.

The 30-year-old reality star became well-known through a Hulu show that premiered in 2024 and has been picked up for another season.

In her new memoir, Told You So, Mayci shares the details of a deeply difficult experience, including the heartbreaking loss of her first child’s father in a car accident when she was 13 weeks pregnant.

In a recent interview, the mother of three explained that after the terrible attack, she had to try and believe she still loved her ex-partner, whom she calls ‘Dick,’ hoping it would help her cope with the situation.

I was really surprised to learn in Mayci’s book that she actually met her ex, who she calls ‘Dick,’ when she was a student at Brigham Young University in California. It was fascinating to hear how their paths first crossed!

She explained that the relationship quickly became abusive, with him forcing her to engage in sexual activity, use drugs, and drink alcohol against her will.

Mayci described the terrible abuse she suffered from her ex-partner, explaining that he once chased her with scissors and cut her thigh with a razor. She then recounted the night he physically attacked her.

Mayce shared that she hasn’t been able to discuss what happened that night with her husband or therapist. She explained that Dick gave her a drink, and she woke up to him sexually assaulting her, even though she was telling him to stop.

She acknowledged his victory and her defeat, but still told Dick she loved him, hoping that if she could believe it herself, the situation wouldn’t feel quite so bad.

Mayci was afraid to report Dick’s abuse because she feared he would become more violent or share intimate videos of them, potentially costing her the scholarship she relied on from BYU, which was funded by the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints.

She told The Times: ‘It was like I was in a prison.’

A year later, Dick came back to California. Meanwhile, Mayci started dating Arik, but their relationship ended tragically when Arik died in a car accident shortly after Mayci found out she was pregnant with their baby.

Mayci explained he felt overwhelming guilt because she had been texting Arik right before the accident. He said, ‘I experienced a pain unlike anything I’ve ever felt and didn’t know how to cope.’

For a year, I repeatedly replayed the events in my head – about five times a day – blaming myself because I had been texting with him. It took almost two years for me to understand that he was actually the one texting while driving, and I hadn’t known.

Oh my gosh, can we talk about Mayci for a second? It’s just incredible! She had her sweet little Hudson, who’s ten now – can you believe it?! – and then she went back to BYU. And that’s where she met Jacob, the love of her life! Hudson was only seven months old at the time! It’s like a fairytale, honestly. I’ve followed her story for years, and it’s just so heartwarming to see how everything fell into place!

The couple got married in 2018 and now have two children: four-year-old Harlow and three-month-old Charli May.

In the third season of The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives, audiences watched Mayci and Jacob get ready for their second child.

The show will return for a fourth season in 2026, with 20 new episodes.
