Sebastian Stan reflects on missing out on big Star Trek and DC roles
As a fan who has witnessed Sebastian Stan’s meteoric rise from relative obscurity to becoming a household name, I can’t help but feel a sense of admiration for his resilience and determination. The tale of him missing out on iconic roles like Captain Kirk in Star Trek and Hal Jordan in Green Lantern is a testament to the unpredictable nature of Hollywood.
Sebastian Stan has opened up about missing out on big Star Trek and DC roles.
The well-known Marvel actor shared memories from his acting career, disclosing that he nearly secured the roles of Captain James T. Kirk in the 2009 film “Star Trek” and Hal Jordan in the 2011 movie “Green Lantern.
He shared with Josh Horowitz from Happy Sad Confused that there were a few things he had been yearning to understand but hadn’t quite managed yet. One of those was nearly within reach – the opportunity to portray Captain Kirk for JJ Abrams.
“I recall being very near to landing the role. I had a screen test with Abrams at Paramount Studios, and my agent arranged for a separate photoshoot where I attempted to mimic William Shatner’s poses for comparison. However, despite my efforts, I didn’t end up getting the part.
Reflecting on my audition for The Green Lantern, I recall walking in and finding myself alongside Justin Timberlake, Jared Leto, Ryan Reynolds, and possibly another contender. As I took in the room, I couldn’t help but think, “I’ve bit off more than I can chew here! This opportunity seems too good to be true!
Although you nearly reached that point, thankfully it didn’t occur. Reflecting on it now, I must confess, I’m somewhat grateful it didn’t happen because I’m unsure if I would have been able to manage the intense focus that some individuals handle so well.
Eventually, Chris Pine and Reynolds secured their notable roles; however, it was Stan who made a significant breakthrough in 2011’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” Since then, he has repeated this role in various other productions.
Currently, the actor has a packed schedule. He’s involved in the dark comedy titled “A Different Man” and also the biopic about Donald Trump called “The Apprentice“.
Previously, in the past month, Stan responded to criticism aimed at Marvel by saying to Variety: “It seems quite easy to criticize [Marvel movies]. And that’s okay. Everyone has their own thoughts on this matter.
However, they play a significant role in the success of our business, enabling us to produce smaller films too.
