Seangares hints at ‘gross’ state of NA VALORANT; reveals ongoing match-fixing investigations, corruption
Seangares is prepared to share his thoughts on the alleged issues at the Challenger level in North American VALORANT, which he claims involve bribery, corruption, and manipulated matches among participants.
In simple terms, Shopify Rebellion’s general manager, Sean “seangares” Gares, has publicly expressed his concerns about perceived corruption within North American VALORANT. On May 16, he released a video criticizing the current state of the competitive scene.
According to Seangares, illegal gambling networks, manipulated matches, and high-level corruption – involving significant sums of money – have been a problem within the North American (NA) VALORANT community, with a particular focus on the Challenger tier. He hints that more information about this issue will be disclosed in the near future.
Seangares yet to name names but declares NA VALORANT “rotten to the core”
On May 16, Seangares shared a nearly six-minute video on X/Twitter, detailing his personal exploration of the current state of North American VALORANT. This video followed a mysterious tweet posted by Seangares earlier in the day, where he described the scene as “rotten to the core,” threatened to “burn it down,” and expressed his findings as “completely appalling.
In a recent video, Seangares didn’t mince words, openly expressing deep frustration and sorrow about the state of NA VALORANT, revealing instances of match-fixing and corruption. He claims that these practices have tainted the system, with some individuals reportedly earning hundreds of thousands of dollars from manipulated games.
He continued, “I find myself in quite a puzzling predicament.” He mentioned that he was carefully examining the matter to identify those involved. Additionally, he stated that Riot Games had acknowledged the issue and was independently investigating it.
“I’ve been here for a while but the desperation in the room is unlike anything I’ve ever felt.
Sean “seangares” Gares on the attitude and state of tier-two VALORANT in North America
As I delve deeper into the world of VALORANT, I can’t help but notice the absence of some familiar names from the North American esports scene during the late 2010s and early 2020s. Organizations that once played a significant role in the Valorant community have now vanished, leaving a gap in the competitive landscape.
In the lower echelons of professional video game competitions (VCT), Seangares points out that due to limited opportunities and financial constraints, some players resort to questionable or even illicit practices, like taking bribes from illegal gambling networks to manipulate match outcomes.
When the bribes reach amounts of five to six figures in cash, they have grown too tempting for both players and teams to resist. According to Seangares, top-tier organizations have departed, leaving the players in a state of desperation; they’re accepting bribes worth tens of thousands of dollars in some instances as an incentive to manipulate game outcomes.
1. “This situation has deeply upset me. I’ve risked everything for this moment, yet what has transpired is disheartening and revolting. Not only are these individuals swindling money from gamblers, they’re also undermining the genuine players who are engaging in fair play.”
2. “I feel deeply frustrated by this turn of events. I’ve risked my all for this scene, but what’s happened is disheartening and repulsive. These people aren’t just cheating gamblers out of their money; they’re also undercutting the honest players who are playing honestly.”
3. “This has struck a raw nerve in me. I’ve given everything for this moment, yet what unfolded is disappointing and disgusting. These people aren’t merely deceiving gamblers by taking their money; they’re also sabotaging the players who are playing with integrity.”
4. “This has hit home for me. I’ve invested everything in this scene, but what occurred is disheartening and repugnant. These individuals aren’t simply defrauding gamblers out of their earnings; they’re also jeopardizing the livelihoods of those who are playing honestly.”
5. “This has touched me to the core. I’ve staked my life on this scene, but what transpired is disheartening and revolting. These people aren’t just tricking gamblers out of their winnings; they’re also undermining the players who are playing honestly.”
In simpler terms, Seangares indicates that he’s not yet prepared to disclose specifics regarding his discoveries. However, he is actively distinguishing the individuals who are innocent. He mentions that he could discuss extensively about those who have been implicated in these ethical lapses.
The video emerged shortly after a broadcast by tournament organizer MrFunhaver, who revealed the extent to which match-fixing and bribery permeate the lower ranks of North American VALORANT. He even alleged that a Riot Games employee, holding a significant position within the anti-cheat department, was bribed to allow cheating.
According to MrFunhaver, there are specific players who are intentionally breaking the rules, and it’s known by Riot employees, yet they are being compensated to remain inactive regarding these infractions.
Esports.gg has contacted Riot Games for a response regarding the recent accusations. As we move forward, we may receive additional information within the next few weeks. However, it remains uncertain if Riot can disclose any results from their ongoing investigations at this point in time.
