Sean Murray will break a bittersweet record in NCIS Season 22
As a devoted NCIS fan with countless hours spent following the twists and turns of this iconic show, I must say that the impending record-breaking episode for Sean Murray in Season 22 is a momentous occasion. Having watched the series since its inception, it’s mind-boggling to think about how far we’ve come from those early days when McGee was merely a supporting character.
It’s surprising that none of the original cast members from NCIS are still part of the show now. However, some viewers might consider Sean Murray to be one of the originals.
In the debut of Season 1, Murray didn’t make an appearance until episode seven. To begin with, McGee wasn’t part of the team; instead, he appeared as a tech expert to assist in a particular predicament. After that, it seemed like he stayed on. By the time we got to Season 2, Murray had been promoted to a regular cast member, and since then, things have continued as we know them.
Currently, Murray holds the title as the most enduring figure in the series, which carries significance when discussing potential future milestones. However, the record in question is somewhat bittersweet given the context.
Sean Murray will break the record for most episodes in NCIS Season 22
Murray has starred in a total of 452 episodes so far. In Season 22, he aims to surpass the record for the highest number of appearances in the series. To achieve this, he only needs to appear in eight more episodes. It seems unlikely that NCIS will follow the pattern set by FBI and FBI: Most Wanted, where not all characters feature in every episode.
In Season 22, Episode 8 of NCIS, Murray is expected to break the existing record. However, we wonder who currently holds this record.
In simpler terms, David McCallum, who sadly passed away in September 2023, was not only a record-breaking actor but also an exceptional one. Breaking that record, as you know, was both a triumph and a tinge of sadness for me. During his career, McCallum starred in 459 episodes, featuring prominently in the early seasons. However, toward the end, he decided to focus more on family matters. The show’s writers occasionally included his character, Ducky, in some episodes, but most of the time, Ducky was away teaching and promoting his books.
The only reason McCallum isn’t in the show anymore was due to his death. There was a beautiful send-off episode in NCIS Season 21. It does make the record break for Murray bittersweet. However, even if McCallum was still alive, we’d likely have seen Murray break the record later in NCIS Season 22.
