Sean Kingston Weeps as He and Mom Found Guilty in $1M Fraud Scheme

This Friday, it was determined in a federal court that rapper Sean Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, are responsible for committing more than $1 million worth of fraudulent activities.

35-year-old Kingston and 62-year-old Turner are facing charges for allegedly defrauding a jewelry store, a high-end bed manufacturer, a used luxury and exotic car dealership, as well as a company specializing in luxury microLED TVs, starting from October 2023. The accusations were detailed in the arrest warrants issued.

The jury found both individuals guilty on all five counts they were accused of, which could result in imprisonment for up to 20 years for each one of them.

According to a TMZ report, it’s claimed that the songwriter behind “The Beautiful Girls” cried in court upon hearing the verdict.

After Turner was taken away from the courtroom and placed in custody, it is claimed that Kingston implored U.S. Marshals to ensure the safety of his mother.

Kingston will stay under house arrest until his and Turner’s sentencing on July 11th, whereas she is still held in custody due to the authorities considering her as someone likely to flee.

Last August, during a court appearance before Judge Ernest Kollra, both Kingston and his mom denied the accusations levied against them at their arraignment hearing.

Previously, Kingston was apprehended at Fort Irwin, a military training facility located in California’s Mojave Desert, in May, based on an arrest warrant from the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

On the very same day, Turner found himself under arrest following a search by a SWAT team at his rented mansion located in Southwest Ranches.

The warrants claim that the individuals are accused of taking cash amounting to approximately half a million dollars, luxury jewelry valued at around $480,000, a Cadillac Escalade worth $160,000, and various pieces of furniture.

In a different phrasing, Kingston’s lawyer argued that he was too young to grasp his financial matters, whereas the judge referred to his mother as the mastermind and the central hub of the illegal operation.

In 2007, the Jamaican-American artist achieved a top chart position with the song “Beautiful Girls,” and later teamed up with Justin Bieber for the release of “Eenie Meenie” in 2010.

Kingston was already on two years’ probation for trafficking stolen property before his arrest.

In accordance with court documents from the federal system, it was confirmed that his mother admitted her guilt in 2006 regarding bank fraud, having stolen more than $160,000. She subsequently served approximately 1.5 years behind bars as a result.

The two have also been sued by various businesses.

In the year 2015, an individual who sold personalized watches won a lawsuit against Kingston and his mother in a federal court of New York City, collecting a sum of $356,000 as they had not made their payments.

Back in 2018, a jewelry store in New York managed to win a lawsuit against two individuals for swindling them out of nine valuable items. The court ordered these individuals to pay the store a total of $301,000 as compensation.

Lately, a Florida company specializing in entertainment systems filed a lawsuit against Kingston in February, alleging that he didn’t pay a $120,000 part of a $150,000 bill for installing a 232-inch TV in his home. This TV is roughly 17 feet long and 9.5 feet wide, occupying an entire wall.

Born as Kisean Paul Anderson in Miami, 1990, the singer later relocated with his family to Jamaica during his childhood. He eventually returned to Florida to complete his high school education during his teenage years.

At the tail end of the 2000s decade, Kingston had made a significant mark in the world of hip-hop, largely due to his successful partnerships with Justin Bieber, Dr. Dre, and Nicki Minaj.

Over the past decade or so, I’ve found myself away from the spotlight as I haven’t produced any major label releases. My latest album, Road to Deliverance, unfortunately didn’t make it onto the charts in 2022.

At the tender age of 17, Kingston made his debut in the music industry back in 2007 with the smash hit ‘Beautiful Girls.’ This song incorporated his lyrics onto the melody of ‘Stand By Me,’ originally performed by Ben E. King.
