Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team is working to secure his early release from prison before his October 3rd sentencing, following his recent acquittal on the most serious charges in his high-profile sex-trafficking trial that took place less than a month ago.
On Tuesday, lawyers for Sean Combs submitted a request to the court for his release, detailing the conditions under which he would be granted bail. These conditions include posting a $50-million bond and adhering to travel restrictions. The motion, which has been reviewed by The Times, is directed towards Judge Arun Subramanian, arguing that there are unique circumstances that justify an exception to the standard detention procedure and ensure Mr. Combs’ release.
The 12-page document submitted by Diddy’s legal team argues for his pre-trial freedom, stating reasons such as his “swingers” lifestyle not being a valid reason for incarceration and his facing persistent threats of violence at the Metropolitan Detention Center.
Combs has been in federal custody in the notorious Brooklyn prison since his arrest in September.
55-year-old music legend was found not guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking charges earlier this month, however, he was found guilty on two counts related to prostitution.

In part, the verdict represents a success for Combs, as his lawyers contended that the prosecution had excessively charged him and failed to substantiate their claims.
In my perspective as an ardent follower of the music scene, it’s no secret that Combs faced charges under the Mann Act for moving male companions across state borders. However, his legal team presented a case similar to others where the defendants were granted freedom before sentencing.
The recent court documents add a fresh perspective to Combs’ past relationships with his exes, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura and an anonymous woman known as “Jane.” They both testified about Combs’ infamous parties, which they referred to as “freak-offs,” and made accusations about his aggressive behavior. Remarkably, the filing suggests that Combs’ relationships with these exes were not exclusive but more like a part of a swinging lifestyle.
In the chosen way of life among adults, Mr. Combs is known as a participant in a swinging lifestyle. The statement further proposes that Sean Combs should not face jail time for such activities.
In the court filing, Combs’ lawyers argue that there’s no reason to believe he will flee or pose a threat to the community or particular individuals. Additionally, the motion tries to minimize the allegations of domestic violence made against Combs.
Significantly, surveillance footage showed Combs forcibly kicking and pulling Ventura in a Los Angeles hotel. The woman who made the accusations, known as “Jane,” claimed that Combs subjected her to non-consensual sex, physical harm, and abuse.

The legislation under which he was convicted has roots in discriminatory attitudes towards racial minorities, foreigners, and women, and has often been manipulated by legal authorities for unfair purposes.
In reference to past court cases, Combs’ legal team points out that there has been a history of domestic violence admitted by the defense. However, they assert in their recent motion that Combs struck “Jane” twice in June 2024 due to her provoking him. The documents filed also mention that Combs attended a domestic violence program before his arrest last year.
According to previous court hearings, it was acknowledged by Combs’ lawyers that there has been a history of domestic violence. Yet, in their recent motion, they argue that Combs hit “Jane” twice in June 2024 because she provoked him. The submitted documents also reveal that Combs participated in a domestic violence program before his arrest the previous year.
In their court filing, his legal team states that, as we mentioned earlier, this jury has effectively restored [Combs]’s life, a fact he will not take for granted nor risk compromising by any actions. Moreover, he is deeply committed to ensuring that all seven of his children continue to have a father, and especially the four who share a parent with Kim Porter, who sadly passed away in 2018.
As per the suggested bail terms, Sean Combs’ $50-million bond is set to be secured by his Miami residence, which he will reside in if granted bail. His lawyers further clarify that Combs would only be allowed to travel to specific locations within Florida and New York for legal meetings, along with the airports necessary for traveling between these destinations.
To secure his freedom, Combs’ lawyers stated that he would agree to any additional terms set by the court – such as home confinement, mental health care, and drug rehabilitation – if they were considered appropriate.
