Sean Bean’s “epic” new Liverpool-set BBC crime drama gets first look
The city we call ours, which the BBC refers to as an “epic new crime series,” has unveiled its initial glimpse.
The main cast of the series features Sean Bean, who was last seen in the recently cancelled Disney period drama “Shardlake”; James Nelson-Joyce from “Little Boy Blue” on ITV; Hannah Onslow known for her role in “This Is Going to Hurt”; and Julie Graham, recognized for her performances in “Shetland”, “Time”, among others.
Based in Liverpool, the movie “This City Is Ours” primarily revolves around Michael Kavanagh’s (played by Nelson-Joyce) narrative. Michael has been deeply entrenched in criminal activities throughout his adulthood and works under his friend and gang leader Ronnie Phelan (Bean).
As Ronnie talks about hanging up his gaming controller, I find myself contemplating a new chapter in my life. For the very first time, I’ve fallen for someone, and it’s opened my eyes to possibilities beyond this virtual world we inhabit. For the first time, I’m looking ahead, envisioning a future: something to strive for and something precious to protect…
In the upcoming production, Onslow is set to portray Michael’s romantic interest, Diana Williams. The story, titled “This City Is Ours“, delves into their romance amidst the dissolution of Michael’s criminal organization.
The following actors, who were previously announced for the project, are also part of the cast: Saoirse-Monica Jackson (known from Derry Girls), Laura Aikman (recognized from Gavin & Stacey), Mike Noble (from The Long Shadow), Bobby Schofield (featured in SAS Rogue Heroes and The Suspect), Kevin Harvey (starred in Time) and Stephen Walters (appeared in Slow Horses).
The city depicted in this production is a creation of Stephen Butchard, who’s also known for his work on “The Last Kingdom” and “Five Daughters”. Notably, the producer of this project, Simon Maloney, has previously worked on hit series such as “Peaky Blinders” and “I May Destroy You”.
8-part BBC series will be helmed by three distinguished directors: Saul Dibb, winner of BAFTA awards for works such as “The Salisbury Poisonings” and “The Sixth Commandment”; John Hayes, known for his work on “Dublin Murders”; and Eshref Reybrouck, recognized for his work in “Undercover”.
This City Is Ours is coming soon to BBC iPlayer and will air on BBC One in the Spring.
