Sean Bean lands role in period drama about classic British legend
Actor Sean Bean will play a villainous character in the upcoming television show titled “Robin Hood,” which is MGM+’s fresh interpretation of the well-known British legend‘s thrilling escapades.
In this new interpretation, Robin Hood – a comprehensive psychological exploration of the iconic character – features Jack Patten, an emerging Australian talent, in the role of the renowned archer. Meanwhile, the esteemed actor known for his role as Shardlake will portray the Sheriff of Nottingham.
In this new television series, produced by Lionsgate and overseen by showrunner John Glenn, the primary emphasis lies in exploring the deepening bond between characters Rob and Lady Marian – who is the daughter of a Norman nobleman. As they develop feelings for each other, they join forces to champion righteousness and strive for mutual freedom.
After the Norman conquest of England, both Rob and Marian will use their unique talents to combat royal corruption and establish tranquility. Rob takes charge of a group of outlaws, whereas Marian gains access to the royal court, battling adversaries within its ranks.
In the latest adaptation of the period drama, Bean’s personality seems to be portrayed as multi-faceted rather than just the antagonist, unlike the way he was depicted in the Russell Crowe film.
The Sheriff of Nottingham is not only a respected public figure, serving as a diplomat, strategist, and constructor, but also a family man who happens to be a father and cousin to King Henry II. He encounters challenges not just from the outlaws lurking in the woods, but also from the complex political machinations of Eleanor of Aquitaine and the ambitious Norman Barons who surround him.
He governs sternly yet not unkindly, upholding the law as the Normans perceive it, demonstrating both shrewdness and practicality in his rule.
Jack Patten
As for the 10-episode television show, which will initially be steered by director Jonathan English, there hasn’t been an announced launch date as of now.
Earlier, the head of MGM+, Michael Wright, expressed enthusiasm about casting Jack Patten for his debut as a leading character in a TV series, as reported by Deadline: “We’re thrilled to have Jack Patten step into his first major television role.
It was clear as day, the moment we laid eyes on him, that he was exactly the Robin we had envisioned, and he alone could breathe life into this cherished figure. This is how Wright put it.
In the fresh take on the timeless romantic saga, Jack embodies an exceptional charm and compassion as he plays the role of the renegade bandit who robs the wealthy to aid the needy. Along this adventure, he encounters a strong-willed companion, Marian, with whom he eventually forms a deep connection.
