Get ready for a new season with the doctors and nurses of Sacred Heart Hospital! The popular sitcom is back, and this time, we’ll see best friends JD (Zach Braff) and Turk (Donald Faison) reconnect at the hospital where they first started their careers after many years apart.
As a big fan, I was thrilled to hear ABC finally greenlit the reboot after all that speculation! The best part? We won’t have to wait forever to see it. They’ve confirmed a special two-episode premiere will hit screens on February 25th, 2026, and I’ve already marked my calendar!
Premiering in 2001, Scrubs was a beloved show that uniquely mixed hilarious comedy with genuinely touching moments. Over its nine seasons, it earned impressive recognition, winning 33 awards and receiving over 100 nominations before its emotional final episode.
Bill Lawrence, the creator of Scrubs, recently told Deadline that the new version of the show will be a unique blend of a revival and a reboot. Typically, revivals continue the original story with familiar faces, while reboots start over with a new cast and a fresh take. This upcoming show will combine both approaches!
We’ve discussed this a lot, and I believe the main reason to revisit the show is a combination of two things. First, people are naturally curious about the medical world, especially as it relates to their loved ones – that’s a key element of any successful revival. Second, the original show thrived because it focused on young, idealistic individuals entering medicine as a true calling. It avoided the tired trope of wealthy doctors and that’s something we should maintain. Ultimately, ignoring either of these aspects would be a big mistake.

‘Scrubs’ Reboot Brings Back Fan-Favorite Cast Members

ABC/Disney
Zach Braff and Donald Faison are reuniting as their beloved characters JD and Turk in a new series. They’ll be joined by several original cast members, including Sarah Chalke as Elliot. Judy Reyes, who played Carla, and John C. McGinley as Dr. Cox, will both make appearances throughout the season. Robert Maschio (Dr. Todd Quinlan) and Phill Lewis (Dr. Ben ‘Hooch’ Sullivan) are also returning to their roles.
The show is adding Vanessa Bayer as Sibby, who leads wellness initiatives for the Sacred Heart Hospital staff, and Joel Kim Booster as Dr. Eric Park, an attending physician.
Lawrence told TVLine in June that he’d like to find out what happened to all the original characters – whether they still work at the hospital or not. He believes JD and Elliot’s child will likely appear in the new series, but emphasizes that Scrubs has always been, and will continue to be, a comedy centered around the workplace.
