Scrubs Lead Zach Braff Reveals His 1 Condition for the Revival

Rumors of a reboot began surfacing in late 2024, and ABC officially announced the show’s return in July 2025. Before the reboot premiered on February 25th, star Zach Braff shared the single requirement he had for participating.

Zach Braff is returning as Dr. John “J.D.” Dorian, joined by Donald Faison as Dr. Chris Turk and Sarah Chalke as Dr. Elliott Reid. The new series will see J.D. and Turk working together again, bringing back their classic playful behavior – including the iconic Eagle. Braff revealed that getting and involved was a requirement for them to participate.

The trailer for Scrubs features J.D. and Turk performing their classic move, the Eagle – J.D. jumping onto Turk’s back. Both actors have explained that while their characters still have a playful side, they’re now portraying adults.

Faison jokingly admitted that adults often act like children, but he also emphasized the responsibility he has to actually raise his own kids.

Zach Braff clarified that they wanted the characters to feel like genuine adults, not kids. He and Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence specifically agreed that avoiding childish portrayals was a priority.

He explained that while they often play around, the characters become serious and responsible when facing real-life challenges. This includes handling family issues, relationship problems, and, most importantly, the critical situations that arise when caring for patients and teaching new interns. Those serious moments are portrayed authentically.

Scrubs’ Eagle Move Ended With the Stuntman Injury on Set

The trailer for the Scrubs revival showed J.D. and Turk attempting their signature move, the Eagle. But, showing their age, the stunt ended with both of them falling to the floor. Sadly, the scene resulted in an injury: the stunt double for Turk actually broke his nose during the fall.

Zach Braff shared that they used the very first take of a particular scene, and it ended up in both the show and the trailer because of an accident. The stuntman had a hard fall, cutting his eye, and the on-set doctor immediately determined he needed a stitch. They decided to use that take—the only one they had—as is.

Faison mentioned he’s still physically capable of performing the ‘Eagle’ move, and remains in good shape, but his character on the show is no longer able to do it.

Scrubs Is Off to a Great Start

The show is coming out shortly, and initial responses are starting to appear. While the announcement of its return received a varied reception, the show’s creator, Bill Lawrence, and the actors worked hard to stay true to the original characters and storyline.

The show is being well-received, mirroring the popularity of the original series. Currently, critics give it an impressive 89% approval rating based on 18 reviews. Although this score may change as more reviews come in, it’s comparable to the 83% approval the original series earned over its nine seasons.

Scrubs premieres on Feb. 25 on ABC and Feb. 26 on Hulu.
