Scream 7’s Ghostface actor breaks silence on divisive reveal: “I had no idea”

The actor who played Ghostface in Scream 7 has discussed the controversial reveal of the killer’s identity. The film has faced a lot of trouble after the main stars, Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, and the original director, Christopher Landon, left the project.

The film has been met with largely negative reviews from both audiences and critics since its release. With a current score of 31% on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s now the lowest-rated installment in the horror series.

Many viewers have criticized Scream 7 for repeating storylines from earlier films. A major point of contention is the reveal of the Ghostface killers: Karl Gibbs (Kraig Dane), a patient who escaped from Fallbrook, Marco (Ethan Embry), a supervisor at Fallbrook, and Jessica Bowden (Anna Camp), who lives next door to Sidney.

After the controversial announcement, Embry shared his experience of finding out he would play one of the villains in the famous horror series.

While trying on costumes in the wardrobe, he discovered the famous Ghostface cloak and mask.

I remember being totally shocked when I heard! He said he was like, ‘You’re kidding, right?’ and the costume person just looked at him like he should have known all along. Apparently, he really had no clue, and neither did I until that moment!

He explained that he couldn’t accept it until it actually happened, because it was such big news. He mentioned that while trick-or-treating on Halloween, he was surprised by how many children were dressed as Ghostface – there were so many, he estimated dozens!

Embry shared that he tried out for a role in Wes Craven’s first movie, but wasn’t cast.

In Scream 7, Neve Campbell returns as Sidney Prescott. Her life is disrupted when a new Ghostface emerges and begins targeting her teenage daughter, Tatum (Isabel May). This forces Sidney and Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox) to face their troubled histories.
