Scream 7 spoilers follow.
While Scream 7 had a record-breaking opening weekend, it’s also faced significant criticism, earning the lowest score of any film in the Scream series on Rotten Tomatoes, with many reviews calling it uninspired.
One of the actors playing Ghostface recently revealed they were never told why their character was Ghostface, explaining the script offered no explanation.

The movie unveiled the identities of those wearing the mask: Karl Gibbs, a patient who escaped from Fallbrook, Marco, a supervisor at Fallbrook, and Jessica Bowden, a neighbor of Sidney. Kraig Dane and Ethan Embry play Karl and Marco, respectively, while Anna Camp portrays Jessica.
Anna Camp recently shared on the I’ve Never Said This Before podcast that she was somewhat unsure about her character after the movie came out. It was her first time speaking about the film since its release.

I portrayed the character as someone completely consumed by obsession. I acted as if I was even in love with Sidney, actually,” she explained.
The scene lacked clear direction or strong writing, so I had to rely on my own imagination and emotions to bring it to life. The script didn’t offer much to work with, meaning I had to build the character’s feelings from scratch.
I had to create the entire history of my character’s feelings – why he loved her, why he was so fixated on her – all by myself in my hotel room. The previous scenes didn’t give me anything to work with; they didn’t explain his motivations at all, honestly.

Camp noted that the final film had fewer scenes than the original script. Even when reading the script, she felt Jessica didn’t have much screen time – she only appeared in one scene before being unmasked as the killer.
Ultimately, a scene was added featuring Jessica and Gale Weathers outside the house. Gale also wrote a line suggesting Jessica disliked her son because he resembled his father, and that line was included in the final cut of the movie.
Scream 7 is out cinemas now.
