Scream 7 sets unwanted Rotten Tomatoes record as it’s branded “worst in the franchise”

The newest Scream movie has received initial reviews that mark a low point for the series. Scream 7 is currently in theaters and brings back Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, who is now focused on keeping her daughter safe from a new Ghostface killer.

This isn’t a continuation of the recent Scream series, as Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega won’t be returning after leaving the franchise following the 2023 film.

The latest Scream movie has received mostly negative reviews, with one critic even calling it the worst in the series. Its low score of 38% on Rotten Tomatoes makes it the lowest-rated film in the Scream franchise so far.

While leaning on nostalgia seemed logical, the film unfortunately proved that trying to recapture the past doesn’t always work – even for a character like Sidney Prescott.

It starts to feel like the writer, Kevin Williamson, is intentionally trying to annoy the audience. Perhaps the biggest twist is that the creator of Scream wants to subvert—even dismantle—his own creation.
