As a big Scream fan, I was definitely wondering before going into Scream 7 if I needed to stay until after the credits. After Scream 6 did something different and actually had a post-credits scene – something the movies hadn’t done before – it made me think we shouldn’t skip it this time around!
Scream 7 has a mid-credits scene but no post-credits scene
ScreenRant reports that Scream 7 includes a scene shown during the credits, but it appears after the main credits begin. There isn’t a separate scene after all the credits have finished, so viewers need to watch the initial part of the credits roll to see it.
The post-credits scene in Scream 7 doesn’t hint at future villains or sequels like most films in the series do. Instead, it focuses on wrapping up the stories of certain characters, making it a meaningful conclusion to their arcs and giving viewers a real sense of closure.
In Scream 7, we see a passing of the torch as Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown) works with Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox). Mindy is learning from Gale how to report on the tragic events that always seem to follow the Ghostface killings, acting as her assistant and getting a firsthand look at the process.
As news of the new Ghostface killings breaks, Gale is ready to report as she always does. However, Mindy asks if she can take the lead this time. The scene shows Mindy delivering the report, with Gale watching—a moment that symbolizes the passing of the storytelling baton to a new generation.
This explains why the filmmakers chose to include this scene after the credits of Scream 7, instead of within the main movie. It serves as a final addition, tying up loose ends for certain characters without disrupting the impact of the film’s real ending.
Unlike many horror franchises, the Scream movies don’t use post-credit scenes to tease future installments. Each film concludes by revealing Ghostface’s identity and showing the characters deal with the aftermath, leaving the possibility of a sequel open without forcing one.
