Scream 7 gets exciting filming update ahead of 2026 release
The seventh installment of “Scream” hasn’t had an easy journey to the big screen, yet production is now officially underway on this upcoming horror sequel.
In simpler terms, “The new Scream movie signals the comeback of Kevin Williamson, the creator of Scream, to the franchise since he wrote the initial four films. He is directing Scream 7, where we see Neve Campbell reprise her role as Sidney Prescott after she chose not to appear in Scream 6.
Filming for Scream 7 kicked off yesterday (January 7), and the filmmaker shared his excitement on Instagram, even though he playfully suggested, “I’m not allowed to talk about Scream.
I apologize in advance, Spyglass and Paramount, as sharing the excitement of a truly exceptional day is challenging when it’s one of the best you’ve ever experienced. Working alongside such an incredible cast and crew was simply extraordinary.
They gave their best performance and supported me throughout our journey. I am incredibly thankful for this experience, and throughout it all, the influence of Wes Craven never left my thoughts. His immeasurable impact on my life and career continues to be profound. What an unforgettable day!
Initially, the director for Scream 7 was intended to be Christopher Landon, who is well-known for his work on Happy Death Day, but later decided to step away from the project.
He was one of the ones who backed Williamson, expressing his enthusiasm by saying: “I can hardly wait to witness the fantastic destinations you’ll explore!
In addition to Campbell, Scream 7 will also feature the return of Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers and Mason Gooding reprising his role as Chad Meeks-Martin.
The new arrivals feature Isabel May, known for her role in the Yellowstone prequel, playing the daughter of Sidney (Anna Camp). Also joining are Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, and Sam Rechner as well.
It remains uncertain if Jasmin Savoy Brown reprises her role as Chad’s sister Mindy or if Hayden Panettiere’s character Kirby Reed makes a comeback. However, we can confirm that Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega won’t be reprising their roles as sisters Sam and Tara.
Scream 7 will be released in cinemas on February 27, 2026.
