Scotty James’s sister lashes out at The Project’s ‘rogue’ Instagram account over ‘terrible’ social media post after snowboarder misses out on gold at the Winter Olympics

Scotty James’s sister has criticized the Instagram account for the TV show The Project after they posted what she called a ‘terrible’ and inappropriate message about her brother.

Even though Channel 10 cancelled the show last year, the company that used to make it, Rove Enterprises, has continued to run its Instagram account, ‘theprojecttv’.

The account posted a picture of 31-year-old Scotty after he didn’t win gold at the Winter Olympics in Milan–Cortina on Friday, and included a quote from the Australian athlete.

According to a post quoting him, Scotty said, ‘Cheer up and go have a beer!’ after winning the silver medal.

Rebecca James, sister of Scotty and fiancée of weatherman Sam Mac, was upset when she realized a recent post was about her brother. She publicly criticized it, calling it ‘terrible’ in the comments.

‘How dare you!!!! Such a disappointing comment by you,’ an angry Rebecca wrote.

Several people quickly responded and clarified that they were simply quoting her brother.

Honestly, I just couldn’t believe their explanation either. Rebecca was right to push back – it really wasn’t obvious at all that they were talking about her brother. It felt like they were trying to downplay it, and she wasn’t letting them get away with it.

‘That’s unclear and it’s a terrible post either way,’ she clapped back.

Several others agreed, with person writing: ‘Poor post, give it context. You should know better.’

‘That is disgusting to say such a thing,’ another said.

Australian athlete James was deeply disappointed on Friday after placing second in the men’s halfpipe final.

James, age 31, competed in his fifth Olympic Games but was outperformed by Japan’s Yuto Totsuka. Totsuka earned an impressive score of 95.00 from the judges during his second attempt.

James continues to be a history-maker as the first Australian to win three Olympic medals: a silver at Beijing in 2022 and a bronze at PyeongChang eight years prior.

In 2025, The Project was officially axed after 16 years, airing for the final time on June 27.

The original program was replaced by 10News+ in June, but its social media accounts are still being updated and maintained by Rove Enterprises.

Ten does not own or operate any of The Project channels.

The news show aired ‘nearly 4,500 episodes’ when it was revealed it would be leaving screens.
