Film producer Paddy Higson has died at the age of 83 following a battle with cancer.

Yesterday evening, our beloved mother lost her fight against cancer and peacefully passed away, surrounded by us and an abundance of love. This news was shared on Facebook by her children Michael, Chris, and Frances.

Apart from the three of us mourning the loss of our incredible, exceptional mother, it’s sad to say that the broader community has also lost a compassionate, generous, supportive, and selfless trailblazer.

‘We’re deeply saddened, yet take solace in the fact that her pain has ended. Details about the funeral will be shared at a later time.’

Actor David Hayman described her as ‘the mother of the Scottish film industry’.

Over time, I had the privilege to work on various episodes for shows like Taggart, Monarch of the Glen, and Cardiac Arrest – a testament to my commitment and passion for the craft.

She also worked director Bill Forsyth on Scottish film Gregory’s Girl.

In 2018, she received a Scottish BAFTA in recognition of her exceptional work within the Scottish film industry.
