Scott Mitchell Reveals He Still Wakes Up in Panic Over Barbara Windsor’s Death
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I can empathize with Scott Mitchell, who shares that he still finds himself awakening in a state of anxiety, much as I used to when Barbara Windsor was alive, due to my ongoing concern for her well-being.
83-year-old Barbara, famed for playing Peggy Mitchell on the British TV series EastEnders, passed away due to Alzheimer’s Disease in 2020.
In 2014, when Barbara got sick, Scott, who is now 62 years old and her caretaker, stated that he remains vigilant throughout the night to prevent any falls she might have.
And years after her death, Scott has admitted he still struggles to sleep throughout the night.
He shared with The Mirror, “Ever since I was taking care of Barbara, I’ve never truly awakened again. I might fall asleep at 11 o’clock, but I often find myself waking up throughout the night.
Because she often had falls during the night, I would always stay awake, remaining vigilant as I was always mindful of when she would get up.

He mentioned: ‘Sometimes, upon waking, I find myself alarmed, questioning if she’s all right, much like before. I need to reassure myself, saying, “She’s fine. She’s at peace.” Fortunately, such occurrences are significantly less frequent compared to the past.’
Scott and his new partner Tanya Franks previously spoke about their romance on Lorraine.
Following the sad passing of his wife, Scott explained how a deep friendship with Tanya, aged 57, blossomed into a romantic relationship.
In conversation with Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, he shared that a remarkable friendship was formed during the four-year span, leading to something truly beautiful.
‘I’m incredibly lucky to have a companion who is patient as I discuss my departed spouse, which is the complete antithesis of dementia.’
Over time, Scott and Tanya developed a strong bond while collaborating on efforts to increase Alzheimer’s awareness through ‘Bab’s Army’.
Tanya deeply cares about Alzheimer’s disease, as she’s participating in the London Marathon as a member of ‘Bab’s Army,’ to honor her step-father, Derek, who is affected by it.
Tanya, acquainted with EastEnders actor Barbara and portraying the character of drug-addicted prostitute Rainie Cross on the show, expressed her solidarity by stating she can only offer support to Scott as he discusses Barbara’s struggle and his role in caring for her during this challenging time.

Tanya expressed that she can only stand by him as he discusses the matter. It’s a common feeling of isolation when caring for someone with Alzheimer’s, she added.
The dialogue facilitated the expansion of our assistance network. For me, dealing with Alzheimer’s in relation to my stepfather is just as much about Barbara’s legacy as it is my personal journey. Our collective efforts have resulted in over 100,000 dollars raised from participating in three marathons together.
Scott said, “For the upcoming marathon next year, if anyone offers a million pounds, be it a large company or sponsor, I’d run another marathon and also shave my head. That’s a big deal for me – shaving my head.
‘I don’t want people to go through the latter stages of what I went through with Barbara.’
He mentioned that she is a remarkable woman who had known Barbara Windsor. It must not be an effortless task to associate with someone who was intimately connected with Barbara Windsor, considering his continued openness about her and discussing her still.
From what I gather, Tanya’s character seems capable of handling such situations. She is self-assured and her feelings of love don’t simply shut off just because she’s not with someone. In other words, Tanya’s strength and love for others remain constant, regardless of their relationship status.
