Scott Mills reveals he was forced to HALT filming for Celebrity Race Across The World after struggling with an 'awful' illness

As an ardent fan of Scott Mills, I can’t help but feel a pang of empathy for the man behind the mic who has brought so much joy into my life. The news of his brief hiatus from Celebrity Race Across The World due to an ‘awful’ illness is a stark reminder that even our beloved celebrities are human and vulnerable.

According to Scott Mills, he temporarily paused shooting for Celebrity Race Across The World due to a particularly bad health issue.

51-year-old Radio 1 star teamed up with his partner Sam Vaughan to compete against three other famous duos in a race spanning South America’s landscapes.

Yet, on the premiere day, which is set for Wednesday, Scott has disclosed that he had to halt filming for a span of three days due to intense headaches he couldn’t ignore.

He told Metro: ‘I started getting these mad headaches – I don’t get headaches – but I was getting really awful ones to the point where one day I said, ”I can’t film today, I’m really sorry.”

It’s clear that a medical professional was present, taking care to ensure I consumed food and provided me with medication to help alleviate the issue. However, despite these efforts, the problem persisted for three consecutive days.

Later on, Scott disclosed that Sam had found out what was making him ill, querying if he’d consumed any caffeine during the previous days.

During their South American trip, the couple acknowledged that Scott’s heavy dependence on his morning coffee often led to significant disputes due to its substantial impact on their limited funds.

In this shining edition of the BBC program, Scott and Sam faced off against Kelly Brook and her husband Jeremy Parisi, Jeff Brazier along with his son Freddy Brazier, and Kola Bokinni together with his cousin Mary Ellen. Their goal was to reach the final checkpoint in the quickest possible time.

As a caffeine-addicted coffee enthusiast, I’ve always found myself shelling out way too much cash for my daily fix. One day, I expressed my frustration to a friend who simply replied, “Well, you need this to function.” In that moment, I realized the truth in his words and decided to let him have his precious coffee without any guilt or hesitation. After all, I’ve learned that sometimes, indulging in little luxuries can make life more bearable and enjoyable.

In addition, Scott mentioned that he occasionally faced challenges due to the scorching hot weather in South America, and the linguistic hurdles while touring Brazil.

The star added that it was ‘horrendous’ being banned from using his phone during the challenge, but has taken note to lock away his device when he and Sam celebrate thier marriage in October.

Following their participation in the Celebrity Race Across The World, Scott and Sam got married at a ceremony held in Barcelona during the month of June.

In the next installment of the show’s celebrity edition, famous actors from Ted Lasso and well-known television hosts will compete against each other. Their goal is to navigate their journey towards a specific destination while being devoid of cell phones and cash.

In the upcoming competition, Ted Lasso’s associate Kola Bokinni along with his relative, Mary Ellen, will face off against television host Jeff Brazier and his son, who is 20 years old.

On a modest budget of approximately £1,000, their adventure commences at Belém, situated in the northernmost part of Brazil – often referred as the entrance to the Amazon – and will traverse five key locations spanning the entirety of South America.

They will do all they can to reach the finish line in the Andes, Frutillar in Southern Chile.

Among the stars will gather their closest friends and family members, offering a distinctive perspective on individuals we believe we understand, as seen through the lens of those who are most intimately acquainted with them.

Race Across The World airs Wednesdays at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
