Scott Eastwood’s Can’t-Miss WWII Thriller, Lucky Strike, Gets Streaming Release Date

The World War II thriller, Lucky Strike, starring Scott Eastwood, is now available to rent or buy digitally after a limited theatrical run starting in late June.

The movie features Clint Eastwood as Captain John Castle, an American soldier who is the only one left alive after a surprise attack by the Nazis. Alone with just his radio, he struggles to survive the harsh winter and make his way back to friendly lines, all while evading the enemy.

The movie Lucky Strike, which premiered in theaters just over a month ago, will be available to rent or buy digitally and on DVD/Blu-ray starting Tuesday, August 4th. Starring Clint Eastwood, along with Colin Hanks, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Taylor John Smith, and Jonathan Yunger, the R-rated film contains some intense imagery and language. Rod David Lurie directed the movie and co-wrote the screenplay with Marc Frydman.

The film was produced by a team including Frydman, Les Weldon, Yariv Lerner, Julie Kroll, JJ Nugent, Lonnie Ramati, Matthew Helderman, Luke Taylor, Jonathan Saba, Shana Becker, Eric D’Arbeloff, Howard Cohen, Avi Lerner, Trevor Short, Lati Grobman, and Scott Eastman.

Released in theaters on June 26th – the week after Toy Story 5 and alongside SupergirlLucky Strike received mixed reactions from both critics and audiences. Its Rotten Tomatoes scores reflect this, with critics giving it a 59% rating and audiences a 69%. The film only made $1.5 million at the box office. While some praised its storytelling as surprising and suspenseful, others found it dull and poorly executed. ScreenRant described the movie as “empty” and a “dull imitation.” Opinions on Eastwood’s performance were also divided; some considered his acting to be excellent, while others felt he wasn’t right for the role.

Before starring in Lucky Strike, Clint Eastwood has had a prolific film career, appearing in movies like Flags of Our Fathers, Gran Torino, Invictus, Texas Chainsaw 3D, Fury, Snowden, Suicide Squad, The Fate of the Furious, Pacific Rim Uprising, and Fast X. Remarkably, in 2025 alone, he was in four films: Alarum, Tin Soldier, Stolen Girl, and Regretting You.

As a big movie fan, I remember being surprised and pleased to see Scott Eastwood win a Teen Choice Award in 2015 for his dramatic role in The Longest Ride. He was also up for a ‘Breakout Star’ award that year, which showed everyone was really noticing him. Then, in 2016, his part in Suicide Squad got him another Teen Choice nomination – this time for ‘AnTEENcipated’ actor, which I thought was a fun category!

In addition to his film work, the actor appeared as Officer Jim Barnes on Chicago Fire (in two episodes) and Chicago PD (in one episode). He also acted alongside Taylor Swift in her music video for “Wildest Dreams,” which was featured on her 1989 album.

Lucky Strike will be released on digital and physical platforms on Tuesday, August 4, 2026.
