Scott Brand Deletes Photo of Dementia-Stricken Wife
Julie Goodyear’s spouse removed a recently posted picture of the actress, originally shared as a tribute for her 83rd birthday on Wednesday.
In a touching photo taken on her 83rd birthday, celebrated on March 29, the actress who played Bet Lynch beamed with joy, captured by her spouse.
As a die-hard admirer, I was thrilled to catch a glimpse of the day Julie spent in her abode, following our fantastic adventure outside! Scott, age 55, graciously treated us with a fresh update, sharing cherished moments from our excursion with his adoring fans, friends, and family online.
Yet, the image did not meet with universal approval, for it sparked criticism towards Scott, who faced accusations that he had shared a private moment, which many deemed inappropriate.
It’s said that the famed Rovers Return landlady on Coronation Street, Julie, who was admired for her glamour, might not have been comfortable with the image being posted online.
However, it wasn’t universal agreement, as some people expressed their good wishes towards Julie and appreciated Scott for his warm-hearted post.

Some of Julie’s followers expressed joy upon seeing the update, expressing their feelings in the comment area with phrases like: “Great to catch a glimpse of her again”; or “It’s fantastic to see her back.
I hope you both enjoyed your day celebrating together, buddy; Enjoying the day, Scott; Beautiful lady; Seems like the birthday girl is having a great time there, Scott, happy to hear you had a nice day.
Julie, I wish you a joyful birthday! Sending you warmth and affection.”; “Scott, your smile is infectious today! Wishing you a wonderful birthday!”; “It’s delightful to know that you both enjoyed your day.
The picture was snapped at Julie’s house in Lancashire and later shared on the web by Scott, who captioned it as: “Just returned home with my wonderful spouse, and we had an amazing day together.
He added: ‘Thank you so much for all your birthday wishes from both of us.’
In June 2023, Julie, known for playing the role of the landlady at the Rovers Return pub for more than two decades on a popular soap opera, revealed that she has been diagnosed with dementia.
According to a friend, last summer it was said that Julie was living well while bravely fighting against dementia.
It’s reported that Julie continues to adore leopard print, much as she does with her famous character Bet, and often takes pleasure in serving afternoon tea to her guests.

Julie became well-known for portraying the leopard-print enthusiast Rovers Return innkeeper for more than two decades, joining the cast in 1966 and continuing until at least 1991.
Julie’s most recent television appearance took place in 2019, where she was featured as an interviewee in the Christmas-themed documentary titled “Coronation Street.
Mark Llewellin, longtime companion of the deceased co-star Roy Barraclough, shared stories about his frequent visits to Julie on the Conversation Street podcast.
Saying: ‘Julie is living a good life, really. She still loves leopard print, I’m pleased to say’.
Every seven days, or even more frequently, I find myself gracing the presence of my cherished idol, not just once but twice if fortune smiles upon me. Our shared moments often extend for hours, and during these precious encounters, we indulge in a delightful afternoon tea ceremony on her enchanting leopard print-adorned abode, affectionately dubbed by me as the Leopard Print Boulevard.
He went on to describe her as ‘quite happy’ and said how she goes out of the house regularly.
He joked, saying, “On Sundays, I enjoy her homemade chocolate cake, but truthfully, she rarely lets me have any.
She is clearly living with dementia, a condition that many are familiar with, yet it’s inappropriate to say one “suffers” from it. Instead, it would be more accurate to say they are coping with or living alongside dementia.

Prior to that point, I believe Julie showed great courage and strength. Her actions have transformed both her capabilities and perspective on life.
Before this conversation, Scott mentioned that Julie had given up her signature leopard print ensembles and bright lipstick, a change he attributed to the heartache he’d witnessed in her as she went through her decline.
In the year 1996, Julie encountered Scott, a man 26 years younger than herself, as he brought over plaster to her residence.
Reflecting upon her, he shared his longing for the vivacious Julie, whose lively spirit illuminated every space she entered and whose radiant smiles adorned each room.
As I stand by, witnessing the gradual decline, my heart aches with each passing moment. The beauty that once was, now seems but a distant memory, and the pain of its slow disappearance is palpable.
He added: ‘Julie has always been extremely glamorous, going nowhere without her makeup.
Now, lips remain bare without lipstick, and clothing holds little allure, particularly that bold leopard print.
Scott mentioned that it’s the lack of their usual shared activities like intimate dinners and lengthy strolls that he finds most difficult, particularly the fact that they can no longer take vacations together anymore.

He openly discussed the struggles he encountered while being Julie’s only caregiver initially, acknowledging that it was draining his strength.
Scott, who chose to dedicate himself fully to caring for Julie, shared that he’s come to realize the little liberties he once took for granted are no longer his.
He mentioned that attending a football game with friends or enjoying a drink are no longer feasible choices for him, since everything must now be scheduled well ahead of time, and he must remain sober at all times, ready to drive if an emergency arises.
In his words, the most challenging aspect was acknowledging and adjusting to the diagnosis. Initially, he declined assistance, believing he could handle it on his own since our family has generally preferred privacy.
Instead, it became clear to Scott that he required assistance, so he openly acknowledged that he was struggling, all while assuming responsibility for managing the household tasks and finances from Julie for the first time.
He expressed that taking care of Julie is his top concern, however, his health was suffering due to this role as the sole caregiver. It felt overwhelming and draining, almost like stepping into an entirely new world where he had to manage everything independently.
He suggested that anyone encountering a similar predicament should promptly seek assistance, considering the Alzheimer’s Society as a crucial resource or lifeline.
