Mckenna Grace shared her enthusiastic reaction to being cast as Daphne in the upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series on the Oscars red carpet. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she actually screamed with excitement when asked about the role, exclaiming, “I’m so excited!”

Netflix has announced that Grace will star as a young Daphne Blake in a new eight-episode series. The show will explore the origins of Mystery Inc. and how the team first came together. Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are the writers, showrunners, and executive producers, joined by André Nemec and Jeff Pinkner. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman also executive produce through Berlanti Productions.

Grace shared that she’s a huge fan of Daphne from Scooby-Doo, even dressing up as the character for Halloween multiple times. She’s incredibly excited about the project and plans to celebrate by rewatching all of the Scooby-Doo movies and shows.

She’s played Daphne before, lending her voice to the character in the 2020 film Scoob!. She was scheduled to return for another movie, Scoob! Holiday Haunt, but Warner Bros. Discovery canceled it for financial reasons. She’s also a big fan of the character, often dressing up as Daphne for Halloween.

Shaggy and Daphne are spending their last summer at camp when they stumble into a spooky mystery. It involves a lost Great Dane puppy who might have seen something supernatural – a murder, perhaps.

Along with Velma and Freddy, the group begins investigating a disturbing case that could reveal hidden secrets from everyone’s past.
