As a huge fan, I’m both excited and terrified to share that IDW is releasing the next part of the story! From what I’ve seen, it’s going to be seriously scary!
IDW Publishing is continuing the story of Event Horizon with a new comic book sequel, set to launch in February 2026, according to Collider. Written by Christian Ward, who also worked on Event Horizon: Dark Descent, the first issue, titled Event Horizon: Inferno, will be available in comic book stores on February 4th. Following the success of Event Horizon: Dark Descent, which explored the backstory of the 1997 film, the next installment, Event Horizon: Inferno, will take place approximately 200 years after the original movie’s events. Writer Christian Ward shared that he anticipated Dark Descent‘s popularity, noting that fans of Event Horizon have long been eager for more content to expand the universe.
Beyond that, I wanted to create a comic that both honored the original film and was fun for everyone. Luckily, I had the incredible skills of artist Tristan Jones and colorist Pip Martin – their work was essential to making Dark Descent truly shine, and with them on board, I knew we had a winning project.
I’m honestly surprised by how popular Dark Descent became, and I’m excited to continue the Event Horizon story with Event Horizon: Inferno! We previously shared what led up to the movie, and now we’re diving into what happened after the film ended.
Okay, so I was reading about this new comic, Event Horizon: Inferno, and the setup is seriously creepy. Basically, back in 2040, the starship Event Horizon just vanished. Then, seven years later, it reappeared, but it wasn’t alone – something demonic had taken over. The rescue crew didn’t stand a chance. They ended up blowing the ship apart, but the front half is still out there, and it’s like… searching for the part that made it work: a special gravity drive that let it travel between dimensions. Sounds intense!
Two centuries after its disappearance, a wealthy billionaire arrives at the debris field near Neptune with his own fleet of ships. Obsessed with the legend of the Event Horizon, he’s willing to risk the lives of his crew to find out what happened to it.
The film, written by Philip Eisner, brought a fresh take to science fiction horror. It centers on the crew of the Lewis and Clark, tasked with investigating the Event Horizon, a spaceship that mysteriously reappeared after vanishing on its initial voyage to test a new type of gravity drive created by Doctor William Weir, played by Sam Neill.
Despite not making back its $60 million production cost when it first came out, the movie Event Horizon quickly gained a devoted fanbase and became a cult classic. For years, there’s been talk of potential sequels or spin-offs, and in 2025, fans finally got a chance to revisit the terrifying world of Event Horizon.
Event Horizon: Inferno #1 goes on sale Feb. 4, 2026 from IDW Publishing.
