The latest Scary Movie – the sixth installment – will be hitting theaters this summer, and it’s arriving earlier than anticipated.
Originally developed as Scary Movie 6, the latest film is simply titled Scary Movie. It’s the sixth movie in the Scary Movie series, continuing the story after the 2013 release of Scary Movie 5, and marks the first time the Wayans family has been involved since the 2001 film, Scary Movie 2.

We’re still working on ‘Scary Movie,’ and we have some date news! Unfortunately, it won’t be released on June 12th as originally planned. But, because of the incredible reaction and excitement from around the world, we’re actually moving the release date up to June 5th! We’re kicking off the summer with lots of laughs, and we’re thrilled to be able to release the movie a little earlier than expected.
Paramount likely shifted the release date of Scary Movie to avoid going up against Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day on June 12th. However, it now faces potentially tougher competition on June 5th, opening the same weekend as Masters of the Universe (Amazon MGM Studios), Animal Friends starring Ryan Reynolds (Warner Bros.), and Power Ballad with Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas (Lionsgate).
The new Scary Movie is being released earlier than planned, just one day after its trailer appeared online. The trailer first showed in theaters on February 27th, before screenings of Scream 7, a horror franchise that Scary Movie often makes fun of. The trailer revealed that this new installment will parody a wide range of recent horror hits, including M3GAN, Wednesday, Ma, Sinners, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Get Out, Smile, Weapons, Longlegs, The Substance, and Terrifier.
The upcoming comedy Scary Movie (2026) is directed by Michael Tiddes. The screenplay is a collaborative effort by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans, and Rick Alvarez. Here’s what the movie is about, according to the official description:

The upcoming Scary Movie (2026) will bring back original cast members like Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Jon Abrahams, and Anthony Anderson. Joining them are new additions to the cast including Gregg Wayans, Kim Wayans, Benny Zielke, Cameron Scott Roberts, Heidi Gardner, Olivia Rose Keegan, Ruby Snowber, Savannah Lee Nassif, Sydney Park, and Felissa Rose.
