Summary
- Scarlett Johansson speaks on returning as Black Widow to the MCU in any capacity
- She confirms she misses her co-stars but has no plans to reprise her role
- Johansson wants Black Widow to have her hero moment from her sacrificial death in Avengers: Endgame
Scarlett Johansson recently shared insights about her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe during an interview with Vanity Fair. Unfortunately for fans, she revealed that she won’t be reprising her Black Widow character in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie or any other future Marvel productions.
It seems that Scarlett Johansson’s time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) may be drawing to a close, and while she cherishes her moments with her fellow cast members, she recognizes that Natasha Romanoff’s selfless sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame provided an ideal farewell for both her and her character. Although she acknowledges Black Widow’s importance within the MCU and the influence she has exerted on the narrative, Johansson feels it is time to move on. In her own words, “I find it difficult to envision a scenario in which my return would make sense for me or the character I portray. I deeply miss my colleagues, but what makes the character compelling is that her story has reached its conclusion. I don’t wish to alter that. For the fans too – it matters.
Johansson recently portrayed her character in the 2021 movie “Black Widow”, where fans were introduced to Yelena Belova and Red Guardian who have become crucial figures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) storyline. Black Widow was among the original six Avengers, but it’s not planned for her return; instead, her influence lives on through Florence Pugh’s portrayal of Yelena.
