Scarlett Johansson names the job she refused to take for the sake of her kids… and the ‘disturbing’ twist after she said no

Despite her refusal, the pin-up found herself unwillingly drawn into distressing dramas with the company.

The job? Voicing OpenAI’s chatbot.

I, an avid fan, was taken aback when the actress from Lost in Translation made waves earlier this year. She publicly criticized the creators of ChatGPT for introducing a chatbot named Sky, whose voice struck me as strikingly similar to hers. Previously, she had declined the opportunity to lend her voice to the project herself.

And she’s now insisted she just didn’t want to get involved with the project.

Scarlett shared with The New York Times that she deliberately stayed away from discussions about AI, making her exclusion all the more unsettling.

The actor, who gave life to Samantha’s charming voice in the 2013 movie “Her” alongside Joaquin Phoenix, expressed, “I found myself asking in disbelief, ‘How did I end up in this situation?’ It was unbelievable. I was filled with rage.”

Based on my personal experiences and values, I strongly dislike being the center of attention or taking a leading role in situations that go against my core beliefs. This feeling is deeply ingrained within me, and I prefer to keep my private life just that – private. The phrase “kiss and tell” resonates with me particularly, as I’ve always believed in maintaining confidentiality and respecting others’ privacy. My past experiences have taught me the importance of staying true to myself and not compromising my values for the sake of public recognition or approval.

“Sam AltopenAI confided in me, and I kept it a secret from everyone but my spouse. I also believed it would be unusual for my kids to know.”

She then added: ‘I try to be mindful of them.’

I’m utterly fascinated and deeply concerned about deepfake technology. As a devoted fan of this actress, who’s 39 years old, her recent warning resonated with me deeply. She described it as a “dark wormhole,” an abyss that once you fall in, there’s no climbing back out. The implications are chilling.

I’ve found that when you attempt to remove something from one domain, it seems to resurface in another. The legal landscapes and regulations vary greatly among different nations.

I cannot begin to express the despair I feel when my ex-partner unleashes their vengeance through revenge porn or deepfakes. Every fiber of my being shudders at the thought of how this could potentially destroy my entire life.

Scarlett expressed her view that technological advancements outpace our ability as humans to adapt mentally, resulting in noticeable impacts, particularly among the younger generation.

‘This technology is coming like a thousand-foot wave.’

Previously, Scarlett expressed her surprise and indignation upon learning the selected voice for the chatbot.

Sam Altman, head of OpenAI, explained that “Sky” was just a name given to the AI model, not an intentional imitation of the movie star with the same name.

According to The Verge’s report, Altman clarified that Sky’s voice doesn’t sound like Scarlett Johansson’s and wasn’t meant to imitate her.

‘We cast the voice actor behind Sky’s voice before any outreach to Ms. Johansson. 

‘Out of respect for Ms. Johansson, we have paused using Sky’s voice in our products. 

‘We are sorry to Ms. Johansson that we didn’t communicate better.’
