Despite the disappointing performance of the recent *Snow White* film, the studio is moving forward with a live-action remake, and they’ve now cast a major star to play the villain.
Scarlett Johansson, known for her role as Black Widow, is reportedly being considered to play Mother Gothel in a live-action remake of *Tangled*. This news follows a recent surge in popularity for the original 2010 animated film and comes shortly before the movie’s 15th anniversary.
Directed by Nathan Greno and Byron Howard, *Tangled* is a fun, animated take on the classic Rapunzel story. It follows Rapunzel, a princess with long, magical blonde hair, and Flynn Rider, a charming outlaw. After years locked away in a tower, Rapunzel ventures into the world with Flynn, while trying to avoid the clutches of the manipulative Mother Gothel. Despite costing a significant $260 million to make – making it one of the priciest animated films ever – *Tangled* was a hit with audiences, earning over $590 million globally. Critics also praised the film, with 89% giving it a positive review on Rotten Tomatoes.
