Scarface actor Ángel Salazar’s cause of death revealed after his passing at 68 in NY
In reflecting upon the life of the late and talented Angel Salazar, I find myself deeply moved by the rich tapestry of experiences he wove throughout his career. From gracing our television screens in beloved shows like On Our Own and Jersey Mafia Chronicles, to making audiences roar with laughter on Last Comic Standing and HBO specials, it’s clear that Salazar was a master of his craft.
It has been officially ascertained what led to the demise of Ángel Salazar, known for portraying Chi Chi in the 1983 movie Scarface, after his passing at the age of 68 a couple of months back.
On Thursday, TMZ reported that the cause of Salazar’s demise was traced back to an excessive amount of cocaine, as confirmed by a New York City Medical Examiner.
Authorities announced that Salazar passed away as a result of severe poisoning caused by the mix of cocaine, the muscle relaxant cyclobenzaprine, and the allergy medicine diphenhydramine.
The Cuban-American actor’s death was ruled accidental, according to the medical examiner.
The actor was additionally fighting high blood pressure conditions connected to heart disease and hardening of the arteries, according to medical authorities.
I myself learned from trusted confidante and representative Ann Wingsong, shared through TMZ on August 11, that the beloved actor Salazar unfortunately passed away in his sleep at a friend’s residence in Brooklyn, New York. Regrettably, Salazar had been grappling with heart issues.
Wingsong told the outlet that a friend checked on Salazar and found him lifeless in the bed.
In the movie, Salazar portrayed a criminal companion to Tony Montana, played by Pacino, who was a notorious drug lord. The film also featured Michelle Pfeiffer, Steven Bauer, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, F. Murray Abraham, Paul Shenar (deceased), and Robert Loggia.
Before landing his career-defining role in a Brian De Palma film, Salazar had already made appearances in movies like “A Stranger Is Watching” (1982), “Where the Buffalo Roam” (1980), “Walk Proud” (1979) and “Boulevard Nights” (1979).
In the plot of the film, Chi Chi stepped in to help Montana following an attack with a chainsaw during a failed drug transaction.
Chi Chi found herself sitting beside Montana during a sequence where it was revealed that he was involved in money laundering activities.
In the climactic scene of the film, Chi Chi meets his end following a gunshot wound sustained during a fierce ambush orchestrated by Alejandro Sosa’s adversaries.
Among the memorable films I found myself gracing the screen were “Sylvester” from 1985, “Maniac Cop 2” in 1990, “Punchline,” where I shared the limelight with none other than Tom Hanks, also released in 1988. That same year, I was in “Hot to Trot.” But one of my most cherished roles was in the 1993 movie “Carlito’s Way,” a nostalgic reunion not only with the great Martin Scorsese but also Al Pacino, a true icon in our industry.
Apart from that, he was featured on various television programs like On Our Own, The New Street Series, Jersey Mafia Chronicles, and In Living Color.
Besides his acting career, Salazar was also well-versed in stand-up comedy, having featured in several HBO specials and making an appearance on the show Last Comic Standing.
At the time of his death, Salazar was involved in a total of 17 diverse film or television projects that were at different stages of development, according to IMDb.
Many honored the memory of Salazar on Twitter, expressing their warmth and fondness for him following his passing, as friends and colleagues alike paid tribute to the late entertainer.
Tito Puente, a musician and orchestra leader, expressed his sentiments as follows: “Farewell, dear Angel Salazar ‘Chichi’. You were an exceptional actor and a cherished brotherly friend.
‘From scarface to carlito’s way your characters and comedy will be forever missed.’
Actress Kadrolsha Ona Carole shared that upon returning home from filming, she discovered her long-time friend and frequent collaborator, Angel Salazar, had sadly passed away.
1) “I’ll surely be missing your goofy actions and hearty chuckles. I’m feeling quite down. My dear friend, always remember me with love. May you find eternal peace.
Funny man Auggie Smith penned down, “Farewell Angel Salazar. One evening at The Icehouse, he left the audience in stitches.
After I had consumed it, he dominated relentlessly for a full 90 minutes, leaving little room for argument about the outcome. It was difficult to attribute my loss to the spectators when Angel played so convincingly.
Comedian Adam Hunter expressed, “Farewell to my dear friend Angel Salazar, with whom I collaborated not long ago. A comedy icon.
