For half a century, *Saturday Night Live* has been America’s leading sketch comedy show, helping to launch the careers of many famous comedians, actors, writers, and cultural icons. While it’s inspired numerous spin-offs and imitations, a new version is on the way with *Saturday Night Live: UK*.
As a huge fan of sketch comedy, I’m already getting excited about who’s going to host and perform on *SNL* in the future! Plus, they’re getting ready to launch *Saturday Night Live: UK* with a brand new cast, which is amazing. We’re starting to learn a lot about the UK version, so let’s talk about what we know so far…
When Does Saturday Night Live UK Premiere?
While a specific date hasn’t been announced, Variety reports that the British version of *Saturday Night Live* is expected to launch on Sky in 2026. This means audiences in the UK, Ireland, and the US will soon be able to enjoy this fresh take on the beloved sketch comedy show – it’s going to be exciting!
James Longman Has Been Named The Showrunner

Lorne Michaels, the creator and long-time showrunner of *Saturday Night Live* (since 1975), won’t be directly managing the new British version of the show, though he will still be involved as an executive producer. James Longden, who previously worked as the executive producer on *The Late Show with James Corden*, has been brought on board to oversee the day-to-day operations of *SNL: UK*, according to Deadline.
It’s currently unknown who will be working with Longman on the writing team, but we expect to learn more in the next few weeks and months.
The SNL UK Cast Has Not Yet Been Announced

Over the years, *Saturday Night Live* has launched the careers of many performers—some who quickly became well-known, and others who stayed with the show for a long time. When a British version of the show begins in 2026, we can expect the same to happen, though the cast hasn’t been revealed yet.
When Sky announced the show in April 2025, they promised it would be hosted by well-known personalities and feature Britain’s most hilarious comedians. Viewers can expect to see some major comedy stars when the show begins airing.
The Show Will Be True To Saturday Night Live, But With A British Twist

The upcoming UK version of *Saturday Night Live*, set to launch next year, will closely follow the format of the original American show, but with a distinctly British flavor. Sky executive Phil Edgar-Jones shared at the Edinburgh TV Festival (as reported by Deadline) that while the remake will stay true to its roots, it needs to feel uniquely British to resonate with local viewers.
Edgar-Jones also explained that he aimed for the show to capture the energetic, unpredictable feel – the “chaos” and “noise” – that has been key to *SNL*’s success for the last half-century.
You’ll likely be hearing a lot more about the British version of *Saturday Night Live* soon. There’s even a chance John Oliver might eventually decide to host an episode.
