As a fervent admirer of resilience and determination, I find myself deeply moved by the indomitable spirit of Dame Sarah Storey. Her life, brimming with challenges overcome, serves as an inspiring testament to human spirit and fortitude.

Dame Sarah Storey has pulled out of Dancing On Ice following a fractured ankle injury in rehearsals, she revealed in an Instagram post on Friday.

47-year-old Paralympic champion expressed her disappointment, stating that she was forced to withdraw from the competition only a month prior to its 2025 debut launch.

Sarah, who was set to perform on ice alongside her professional skating companion, Sylvain Longchambon, disclosed that she’s currently undergoing recovery following a surgical procedure. She posted a photo of herself using crutches and wearing a cast on her leg.

Extremely disappointed that my Dancing on Ice training has been disrupted like this – at a time when my first performance with @slongchambon was shaping up beautifully! ⛸️

Unfortunately, I slipped on some ice and fell awkwardly, trapping my left foot, which resulted in a broken ankle.

I’m incredibly lucky to have had Sylvain and Coach Stephen Pickavance with me, who knew just the right actions, and the medical team supporting our show is undeniably top-notch worldwide.

Sharon Morrison UK’s Medical Director promptly arranged for me to see a top-notch surgeon, ensuring that I was quickly treated and now recuperating at home with my rehabilitation process in motion!

Although I won’t be able to skate on the ice in January wearing my left boot, I’m collaborating with the team at ITV to devise a plan for the future, and I’ll continue to support wholeheartedly the incredible Class of 2025 ⭐️.

During this period, I’m going to dedicate myself entirely to the necessary exercises for building strength and improving mobility. My goal is to regain my peak performance level and return to cycling before the upcoming season starts!

‘My career has seen so many ups and downs with injury and illness, plus returning after two babies, which means I’m well equipped for another comeback.

‘Thankfully the surgeon said I have strong bones so otherwise it could have been a lot worse.

I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunity to begin skating with such fantastic individuals, as shown in pictures 4-7. I couldn’t have hoped for a more exceptional professional partner or a more supportive coaching squad by my side.

‘So for now my plans might be interrupted….. but you better believe there’s more news to come!’
