Sarah Shahi confirms split from Sex/Life co-star Adam Demos after five years and calls dating scene a ‘zoo’

Sarah Shahi and Adam Demos, who starred together in Sex/Life, have ended their five-year relationship.

In a recent interview with Us Weekly, the 45-year-old actress discussed her split from Demos, 40, saying the constant public attention felt like she was going through the breakup all over again.

She described a sweet and touching quality to the relationship that fans felt a personal connection to, speaking more than eight months after news of the breakup first surfaced.

‘The flip to that is when things end, you feel like you’re going through it twice.’

As a longtime fan, I’ve always felt like what she experiences is incredibly personal, but it also resonates with so many of us on a much larger scale. It’s like she feels things deeply for herself, and then those feelings echo outwards for everyone to connect with.

Shahi also talked about dating, comparing it to a ‘zoo’ and sharing her experiences of starting to date again.

‘When people show you who they are, believe them the first time,’ she said.

Dating can be chaotic, and unfortunately, my first impressions about people have usually been right. There was never any reason to give anyone a second chance; I knew from the start they weren’t a good fit.

Shahi and the Australian actor first connected in 2020 while filming their steamy Netflix series. She played Billie Connelly, and he played Brad Simon, and they began dating soon after meeting on set.

Sources previously told Page Six that Shahi was the one to end the relationship.

When they first got together, Shahi said she was ‘blown away with him.’

I immediately hit it off with Adam when we met. It happened in the makeup trailer, and we connected right away – we even had the same taste in music, she told People.

We both loved whiskey and tequila, and I was incredibly impressed with him as a person. I just knew I wanted to get to know him better.

Sarah continued, explaining that she later had the chance to act alongside him, and she felt incredibly honored to share the screen with him.

‘You’re only as good as your scene partner. He’s amazing in the show.’

I’ve been following Sarah Shahi for years, and I remember when she and Steve Howey first got together! They met while working on ‘Shameless,’ and it was such a sweet story. They were married for almost eleven years, from 2009 to 2020, and have three wonderful kids – a son named William who’s fifteen, and adorable ten-year-old twins, Violet and Knox. It’s sad to see they’ve gone their separate ways, but I wish them both all the best.

Demos hasn’t been linked to anyone else publicly.

The former couple sparked engagement rumors last fall while on a romantic holiday in Italy.

Demos and Shahi were seen enjoying a romantic walk around Lake Como. Shahi was wearing a new diamond ring on the ring finger of her left hand, next to the ‘A’ tattoo she got when they first became a couple.

People had been speculating about a proposal for a while, as Adam and Sarah often seemed to be discussing wedding plans during their trips together. Reports surfaced that Adam was even considering proposing to Sarah during their 2023 vacation to Australia.

After filming the Netflix movie ‘A Perfect Pairing’ with Victoria Justice on Australia’s Gold Coast, Adam and Victoria spent time exploring Sydney. They climbed the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge and enjoyed a visit with the koalas at Taronga Zoo.

Adam shared with several Australian news sources that he had brought Sarah to Australia so she could meet his mother – who he considers his closest friend – and all of the people he grew up with.

He’s spoken fondly of his relationship with the former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, saying simply that he feels very lucky and is enjoying life.

Sarah also once said of her now former boyfriend: ‘This man is my f**king soul.

She said feeling so completely and utterly loved was incredible. She also admitted she openly shows her affection for him and isn’t ashamed of it.

The actors who played Billie and Brad in the Netflix series Sex/Life are still together as a couple, even though the show was cancelled last year. Their real-life relationship has lasted longer than their characters’ on-screen romance.

Sarah recently appeared in the Netflix film Red, White & Royal Blue, and Adam is now debuting a thrilling lifeguard drama set in Hawaii called HI-Rescue.

Even before Netflix decided to cancel Sex/Life, Sarah Shahi publicly shared her disappointment with the direction of the show’s second season, specifically regarding the limited role given to her character, Billie McQueen’s husband, Cooper Demos.

I’m continuing with the show, but the people working on it weren’t as supportive this season compared to the first.

‘It became a much different thing for me, and I’m not afraid to say that,’ Sarah admitted.

She admitted she had a hard time understanding the show’s content. She joked that she’d probably never work with Netflix again after being so honest, but she felt she had to tell the truth.

‘And it was definitely a challenge,’ she added.
