Sarah Michelle Gellar shares “overwhelming” pressures ahead of Buffy sequel
Sarah Michelle Gellar candidly discusses the intense demands of the upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, finding it quite challenging.
Recently, news surfaced that a follow-up TV series of the legendary vampire show was approaching a pilot production phase, and later, Sarah Michelle Gellar confirmed her participation.
The star has confessed her feelings of being overwhelmed before starting on the show, sharing with People magazine: “I wish I had a more elegant term than ‘overwhelmed’.
Gellar noted that it was both heartening and thrilling, yet equally nerve-racking, primarily because one must ensure they get it perfectly right.
She believes we’ve assembled an extraordinary team, including Chloé Zhao, the Zucks – Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, as well as Gail Berman. I believe people will find it quite remarkable.
It appears that the upcoming series is rumored to center around a fresh Slayer, while Buffy, played by Sarah Gellar, will make occasional appearances. Directing duties will be taken on by Chloé Zhao from “Eternals”, and the screenplay will be penned by the Zuckermans.
In an Instagram post from early February, Gellar shared her experience of meeting Zhao and how it led to her decision to return. She wrote: “I was astonished that Chloé recognized me, but as usual, I voiced my doubts about the show’s continuation to producer Gail, stating that I couldn’t find a way for it to continue.
From the start, we’d shared the same viewpoint, but on this occasion, I picked up an unexpected tone in her voice. In the end, I consented to join (primarily to catch up with Chloé), and what was intended as a brief twenty-minute coffee break unexpectedly escalated into a four-hour journey. We shared laughter, tears, but mostly we engaged in heartfelt conversations about how deeply this show resonates within us.
Gellar stated that revisiting the series required a guarantee that it would be handled appropriately, as she couldn’t participate unless confident in its execution.
The journey so far has been extensive, and there’s still more to come,” she emphasized. “Rest assured, we will produce this show only when we are certain we can execute it flawlessly. Let me assure you, we are moving in the right direction towards that goal.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer can be streamed in full on Disney+.
